I disagree, they look like NIMBYs to me, property owners more concerned with their property value than the public good. NIMBYs come in every political stripe from ultra conservative to ultra liberal. Everyone owns or leases property.

For the record, I was being a bit facetious here.

We already knew what the Charger for the Midwest and Cascades was going to look like. The way I understand it, and has been shown in artistic impressions, is that the FEC Charger loco variant will have a more customized and appealing sleek cosmetic styling. Time will tell if they will in fact look as good and be as accurate as what the Brightline artist impressions suggest.

From your linked article:
After a cursory review, Martin officials said Monday that Brightline’s safety plans lack key details.
“Martin County staff has identified safety measures such as vehicle presence detectors, remote health monitoring and positive train control that are not graphically depicted in the plans and remain in question” the county said in a statement. “In addition, we have serious concerns about the absence of sidewalk connections, bicycle lanes and Sealed Corridor requirements such as quad gates and concrete dividers.

Railroad companies aren't in the business of providing sidewalks and bicycle lanes. That's the business of local governments, that means you Martin County!

Sealed corridors aren't needed by FRA regulations until the train exceeds 110 mph, and these trains will only do so between Orlando and the existing FEC corridor parallel to the Beachline. As I understand it, that part of the corridor will be mostly grade separated.

Positive Train Control was addressed verbally in the EIS. Graphic drawings will not even be made by the design engineering firms until the design process approaches 90%. I'm sure FEC isn't close to that level of design completion for Phase 2 yet.

Quad gates and concrete dividers are only needed for silencing the train's horns. FEC is not required by the FRA regulations to silence the horns if they don't wish to. And the more Martin County opposes the project causing FEC to spend more money, the more likely FEC will not wish to pay to silence the horns in Martin County.

Now we have to see if the Tri-Rail Commuter rail system makes it unto the Brightline platforms so Miami can have 4 modes of transportation in the heart of downtown.
