Looks like the updated imagery is actually from around August/September 2018.

Side note but holy crap did it take them forever to get around to updating Chicago. From what I noticed NYC, LA, Seattle, Atlanta, and even Dallas have had all their models updated with 2017/2018 data for close to a year now. And I know that they updated a large portion of the northside down to Argyle with October 2018 imagery around Spring, but the entire rest of the city was still using imagery from around 2014 before this update.

I noticed! Took them long enough! That's why I love having my own model lol. If the boom is strong enough to constantly keep google out of date then I guess that's a good thing.

Haha I love that Google has suspended those cranes in time, while they were suspended in space

I feel like the actual time they spend high up is pretty short relative to the total time of the project so we barely get to enjoy the crane's towering presence.

According to Chicago CityScape, 3300 N Clark was issued a tower crane permit.

Comprised of 140 residential units, this 8-story building is set back from a landscaped roof terrace atop a retail and parking podium. The building steps down at the north side to respond to the existing neighborhood scale, while providing additional terrace space for residents.

The curved face and second floor setback help to open and soften the narrow southeast corner on School Street. The material scale within the façade details balance the building with adjacent context. The brick and glass materiality speak to the neighborhood’s quality and feel.

Demo permit issued 12/4 to tear down the Treasure Island on Broadway & Cornelia. Plans are to replace with an 8 story 246 unit building with ground floor retail and 107 indoor parking spaces. Permit says demolition cannot begin before 12/12.

Excellent news! That big parking lot needs to disappear, and quickly! Integrated (non-surface, of course) parking in this development is essential though, given the extreme lack of parking of any sort in this area.

I forgot about this one! Never realized how close it is to CTA's Belmont Flyover project (as in, directly adjacent). This will definitely make up for CTA's demolitions and help ensure that this corner of Lakeview doesn't feel like a warzone.

It also sets a good precedent for redevelopment of the cleared parcels... it would be awful if that land filled up with low-density, suburban crap.

Indeed, I do hope how it ends up interacting with its neighbor isn't as awkward as the rendering suggests though.

The parts of Chicago that I enjoy spending the most time in have the least parking. There is no place where parking is "essential". They said parking was "essential" when they rebuilt Comisky. But look at Wrigley field with no parking. It's always the same story.

3300 N Clark was issued the new construction permit yesterday. As noted above it has a crane permit already so this should start to rise soon hopefully!

Agreed, and this is an area exceptionally well served by transit.

I agree there shouldn't be TOO MUCH parking, but a reasonable number of structured parking is a good thing, especially if it's well-hidden from street level. Especially in Lakeview East, where street parking is already damn near nonexistent. We can talk about transit from here till eternity, but not everyone uses transit, and major retail streets like Broadway need to attract as many people as possible to keep everyone's doors open for business.

Wrigley is a bit of a different beast. That being said, don't pretend there's no parking there. Just expensive parking on lots of private lots that are never open outside of game days (save for the one adjacent to the police substation on Addison.)

I agree about Comiskey, though of course the old ballpark had plenty of parking as well, didn't it? It could and should have been located better and have additional development built around it, no doubt about it.
