Well, it was top heavy and had a bad colour, but the details were nice if not a bit overdone...
The main thing I didn't like was the curved roof/crown. I would have like it a LOT better if the crown was a pyramid.
*Beaux, sorry.

Great find!
I'm with you there. I would do the same. But there would be two. I could put mine in Brooklyn.

btw... I just came back from buying what I think DamienK is talking about. 1923 reproduction? Otto Francis Semsch, author?

The curved crown is one of my favorite features on it, since it was so unique. There's dozens of other buildings with shiny pyramids on top scattered around Lower Manhattan, but that sort of bulbous top to the Singer Building was striking.

I really want that old South Ferry tower proposal to resurface again. It would have created something something similar to the Singer, but in a more advanced fashion.

No kidding.

How many black boxy skyscrapers are there in the world?

Plenty. Just about every city has one.

How many Singer Buildings were there?

One. In New York.

What was it replaced with? A black boxy skyscraper.

^^ I wish I had a black boxy building in the city. All I grew up with was a bunch of ugly 30 floor pomo buildings.

You and me both, I wish the Singer was still in NYC for me to enjoy on a daily basis. I also would of loved to see the Singer in Portland,Oregon, it would of been an amazing addition to that city's skyline.

Outstanding 1907/Singer shots. I'd give a year of my life to have a month to spend in NYC during those years.

This is a good shot because you can see most of the building from bottom to top.

Circa 1913. Woolworth Building under construction in the distance. Detroit Publishing Company.

Circa 1915 "New York skyline from Manhattan Bridge" Detroit Publishing
