Here’s the latest progress on the New Orleans airport flyover ramps

Contractors plan to have the DDI configuration in place by August, followed by the opening of the new flyover ramps in and out of Armstrong International airport in November. Currently, there are about 150 DDI interchanges in use in the United States.

No clue about river district .. with financing the way it is right now hard to say!
Yeah me too that would be perfect for City Hall. Will the Biodistrict be primarily located in one location, or will it be expanding across downtown. I hope the River District isn’t having financing issues already… that’s not good.

The financing issue was just more conjecture about the general envirnoment in the world right now to finance anything let alone something of that scale. Its a great project and will find its footing when rates improve.

Still think they should just renovate City Hall and leave it where it is. Why is everyone so hell-bent on relocating it?

In the last 10 years we've really seen the preservation community start to fight for Modernist buildings (the WTC, etc). Hard to imagine another use for City Hall if the city moves out.

I can’t believe city officials would just let the building deteriorate like that.

The Dead Rabbit
Where: 616 Conti Street
When: Summer 2023

First announced back in 2019, this critically-acclaimed and heavily-awarded cocktail bar in New York’s Financial District is openings its second location in New Orleans’s French Quarter. Jack McGarry and team will open Dead Rabbit NOLA this year on Conti Street, ahead of a US and global expansion that originally aimed to see ten new sites open over the next ten years. The Conti Street address for the bar apparently shares similarities with the original bar — it’s a tri-level space, and owners plan to create a different vibe per floor — a “cozy” taproom and courtyard on the ground floor. a dining room and balcony seating on the second floor; and a mostly standing atmosphere revolving around the balcony on the third.

The Arrive New Orleans hotel is now under construction at the site of a former seafood processing plant in Bywater. (Rendering of the pool area provided by Stateside Hospitality and Palisociety)

"Joe Jaeger, one of New Orleans' most prominent hotel owners and property developers, has finally put up for sale the Plaza Tower, saying he is giving up on efforts to bring the ill-fated Central Business District skyscraper back into commerce after nine years of trying."

Has South Market ever expressed genuine interest in the Plaza Tower and incorporating it into the South Market District? I can only hope.

Has Joe Jaeger ever genuinely tried to get it back into commerce?

But on a serious note, I do remember hearing something in the early days of the South Market District about them being interested in it. I'd imagine they're less interested now but maybe given the horrible press it's been getting, they'll be able to force a good price and do something with it.

Jaeger is a slumlord IMO. He buys up these properties with no intention of doing anything with them- and the sells them to the highest bidder. Btw, I’m excited for all he new construction/re-development that’s going on in the city now. The Superdome renovation, Charity Hospital redevelopment, construction of the new Audubon Aquarium/Insectarium, the Harrah’s/Caesar’s conversion, new construction of the River District, refurbishment of the Municipal Auditorium, redevelopment of the Archdiocese high rise, and now a possible redevelopment of Plaza Tower. Exciting times ahead.

I live across the street from the Jung.. i could write a dissertation of what a POS landlord he is. So yeah his attempt to do anything is laughable as is any other property hes ever been involved in. Any time he sells a property its a reason to celebrate.

That being said I do think this building will require some serious governmental support to get back into commerce. you could give it to someone and take the tax loss writeoff and only an organization with serious government support behind it would take this off your hands. It will need historic tax credits, property tax freeze and probably still some sort of TIF or Pilot for the property to move forward along with Opportunity Zone etc. ALso, lawsuit wise some sort of shield for the new owners if possible while they stabilize it. BTW the main reason Jaeger is selling this is someone most likely forced his hand by nominating for a Local Historic Landmark. Good move there whoever did that. You do certain things with those buildings and they will throw you in jail, no matter what kind of money you have!

Is there any update on the Lowes theater. It seems to have gone silent and does not seem to have construction going on at the site.

Personally I hope they keep it as an office tower; I know that’s wishful thinking as there is little appetite for corporations to come to New Orleans-but still would be nice. I can see the South Market developers maybe taking a chance on Plaza.
