Can you think of one that spans a roadway either?

No, I'm sure we all find it interesting, I'm just not sure that it's too surprising given the engineering challenge of spanning a roadway. I have a feeling there will be some pretty hefty structural members connecting the two halves together between the different roadway levels. That would essentially serve the same purpose as having a mat or sleepers tied together at ground level. Let's face it, Chicago's mud isn't doing anything significant to hold up a building of this size anyhow, so it shouldn't matter if the structural connections are one floor off the ground or 5' into the dirt. It's not like the mat itself is preventing settling, it's just tying the cassion tops together and, if there are no cassions under lower field, then there is nothing to tie together under lower field and the two mats can be linked above grade.

In any case, things are about to get even more interesting as I'm sure there will be some structural acrobatics with this one until we get a few floors above upper Wacker.

Can anyone dig up some old pictures of Hancock, Aon, and Trump getting their bases being put together? Or point me in the direction of a website to find them. I would love to compare the different methods/techniques.

It's just rare to see on a project this big, I think it's interesting and I look forward to seeing how they tie it all together!
Interesting point of view.

There appears to be quite a big gap in the mat -

Anyone know the use of the thin (rusted) reinforcing wire - I would think the thick bar would be sufficient.

And in upper upper Wacker

The mesh is to keep the men from putting their foot through the top load of rebar as they place the bar above.

That and a little extra reinforcement in the concrete hurts nothing.

How are sales in this building? I remember hearing in the middle of 2016 that they had contracts for $200M worth of units. Any updates since then?

I'm guessing they'll finish the second mini mat before there's a concrete pour?

Phenomenal update, Solar. I like the one where you caught One Bennett in the frame.
