I think development on the Jewel parking lots and BP is probably inevitable. That Jewel location used to be very profitable so it might just be a matter of waiting for NEMA II and The 78 to start as well as some of the longer-hanging fruit north on Wabash to raise the value of those lots.

Another site in that cluster is the Trader Joe's parking lot, which is a skinny site but could integrate the building on the corner into its base and taper up. It would have clear sight lines of Grant Park and the lake given the wider base of 1130 S. Michigan.

There is also an empty lot on the 900 block of south Michigan in addition to the three lots open on wabash.

I wish the South Loop was experiencing a building boom like the West Loop is.

at least the south loop got one 600-footer and two 800-footers out of this cycle.

the west loop (west of the kennedy) hasn't come close to those marks yet.

The south loop needs the high end workers and the various sites that support them after they move in. The west loop has a ton of momentum in that direction. It needs no help or subsidies.

More people = eventual more restaurants, small businesses, nightlife, etc. I think we're just starting to see the inevitable potential of the south loop area. 1000 Mich will definitely throw a log on that fire once active. South Loop is just getting warmed up.

West loop/Fulton Market is already on fire, agreed.

Woah, I hadn't noticed and didn't expect that the narrowing of the shear walls at the first amenity floor were going to be expressed on the exterior! Very cool, and some great structural honesty.

It's been 5-6 weeks since they started the overhang and it looks like they're working on the last floor before the 2 amenity levels. It's hard to capture with a camera at the moment, but I can tell this tower is gonna look really cool to stand under because of the larger higher floors. Also, I love the contrast with the older buildings on the corner.

Yesterday (rebar/forms up)

Today (columns poured, starting on next floor)

Great set Klippenstein!

I sure hope they are not finished buttoning up the corner of the facade next door.

According to the Earthcam from the Field Museum (https://www.earthcam.com/usa/illinoi...am=fieldmuseum), it looks like they've reached the top of the cantilevering floors and are now doing the first amenity floor

Giddyup! We're on to the standard vertical floorplates now.

Looks like they are at about floor 20, just over a quarter of the way up to the top.

53 more to go!

I wonder if this will rise as fast as other towers, given that the floorplates aren't technically "standard" because they shift a little on the way up? Either way, excited to see this one climb.
