Thanks for the mention -- I'm happy with how close my prediction was!
Edited one of my previous renderings to match the lighting seen in the official images:

Yeah, honestly I like the look of your renderings better.
If the goal was to go for a "Torch" like observation deck its still odd that this is where they landed.

This is actually cool, probably better suited for Vegas but I don't hate it.

I'd change the base though, not a fan.

yeah we’re getting all overwrought over this observation deck spire, understandably, but the lower hotel portion of the building seems generic as could be.

It's the Mullet of buildings; business on the bottom, party at the top.

Nothing major. There have been consistent minor changes here, but that's not unusual with tall buildings as they work their way through the DOB process.

I love this tower! It looks like something out of a science fiction movie.

What happened to the equipment / people?

Hope it's not stalled.

If I remember correctly, they were always planning on just doing the foundation and then wait for funding to complete the tower portion.

As far as people on site, if it's a weekend, that's normal. But I haven't been by the site in a while, and I don't know where Extell stands as far as getting a crane on site. The stop work orders have been removed. Extell hasn't announced a hotel operator. We'll see.
