Get on twitter if you want to be heard.

I just tweeted Nenshi and my councillor, Evan Woolley. Thanks for the idea!

Quebec City has officially confirmed as well. This is awesome!

Hopefully it's not too late for them to have their flag raising ceremonies tomorrow with us.

AND:

Quote:
Pascal Bérubé, Quebec's tourism minister, also confirmed the tower of Montreal's Olympic Stadium will be lit up in the colours of the rainbow.
Now THAT is ****ing beautiful. Perfectly symbolic. Awesome, Montreal!

I think if anything makes it onto Russian blogs, etc. It'll be that. Fingers crossed!

The Town of Clarenville, Newfoundland, can be added to the list. Our rural boomtown is with us, woot woot!

So, thus far, we have, in chronological order:
  • The City of St. John's, Newfoundland
  • The City of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland
  • The City of Corner Brook, Newfoundland
  • The Town of Gander, Newfoundland
  • The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador
  • The City of Montreal, Quebec
  • The Province of Newfoundland and Labrador
  • The City of Quebec, Quebec
  • The Town of Clarenville, Newfoundland

Ottawa and Vancouver too!

We've crossed the country. This is awesome. If I had a Canadian flag, I'd put it out today. Thanks, guys!

Wow, that is really inspiring. Way to go!

It has nothing to do with Canadian gay culture, but since we're talking about drag queens, I recommend Priscilla, Queen of the Desert to anyone interested in seeing Hugo Weaving and Guy Pierce in drag. It's actually an excellent movie and well worth watching.

Oh! Hedwig and the Angry Inch is another fantastic movie with a great soundtrack where the main character is transgender.

I finally got around to watching this. I knew the situation was getting worse in Russia, but I had no idea it was so bad. This is just gut-wrenching and painful to watch.

Allowing Russia to host the Olympics means that this is now what the Olympics represents; the antithesis of the Olympic Charter. Fuck the Sochi Olympics and the religious puppet tyrants who rule that country.

Looks like Ottawa can be added to the list.

While I'm not part of the community I have emailed a contact in the Halifax goverment about the initiative looking for support.

That's awesome Quebec is so on board with their two biggest cities both showing support plus the provincial government ordering the Olympic Stadium to be lit up. Quebec has been really great with gay rights in the recent past. Rob Fatass will no way in hell allow this to happen in Toronto, hopefully city council can over ride him?

Never say never. In 50 years, Russia may have done a complete 180 in regards to its handling of LGBT persons and look back on the days leading up to the Sochi Olympics with backwardness and disgust.

Look how countries like the US, Canada, Germany, and South Africa have managed to change for the better and become more tolerant of minority groups.

Even though it'll have 0 impact on what Russia says and does, good on Newfoundland for taking a first stand against this ridiculous anti-gay law. And shame on anybody who discriminates their fellow human being for simply not doing the deed the way they do it. What a petty reason to beat somebody up or bring somebody down.

Keep in mind that the Olympics were awarded to Sochi years before these laws were ever conceived.

The official flag raising at Confederation Building begins in a few minutes. I couldn't go, but jeddy1989, the media, and - hopefully - a large number of supporters will be there.

I will, however, be attending the flag raising at City Hall. Woot woot!

YAY!

We thought we were the first provincial legislature in Canada to fly the Pride flag, but apparently it has happened twice before, once in ON and once in NS. Could be wrong about any of that, though, it's second-hand research.
