Updated zoning diagram, pretty much the same...

Although everyone is happy that there's a new super tall going up in Manhattan this has to be one of the most ugly buildings in the world only adding to the dystopic Blade Runner-esque vibe of the Times Square area..

^ I don’t think the supertall status of this one matters (it’s not as if the city is lacking in that department) as much as this will be a new and exciting addition to the observation deck experience in New York. In a city of skyscrapers from every skyscraper era, it’s something that will actually standout. That much is clear, even not having seen a single rendering.

The Paramount Building in Times Square also had an observation deck during it's early years.

That's from the zoning diagram dated January 19th. I don't see the link for it currently.

Have you explored the latest zoning diagram for New York, and where can one access such diagrams?

This design just doesn't get any easier to understand.

That zoning diagram is basically the form or surface area of the tower. For actual details (facade, materials, etc), we'll at least need to see a rendering.

With so much empty office space, this was certainly a smart decision to have a hotel with an observation deck and restaurant on top of this tower. While office space is in short demand, the demand for observation decks is very high.

Lets hope it has a nice neo Art Deco facade to cover up this monstrosity.

The spit in my mouth is so thick. I'm just at a loss for words. Who even dreams up something this unappealing? This belongs in the Lujiazui skyscraper theme park.

This is gonna give Westin Times Square a run for its money.

Seen it. Still bad. Worst fears confirmed.

What you see in the diagram is what's getting built.

A little more detail here....

Well, this wasn't exactly a top location for an office tower. Barnett has a better shot with that on 5th, where he may decide on the office tower.

Gary Barnett actually consider including an observation deck on top of the Central Park Tower before deciding to use that space for condominiums. However, his idea to enter the observation deck business for a future project remained and he decided to do so for 740 8th Avenue. This was after he and other developers realized the revenue that the observation decks at the Empire State Building and 30 Rockefeller Plaza were bringing in the early 2010's. This is what inspired the developers at 30 Hudson Yards and One Vanderbilt to include observation decks on their top floors. One World Trade Center had an observation deck included in it's proposal since it was conceived in the early to mid 2000's as the WTC South Tower had an observation deck on the top floor and ONE WTC was going to be the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere by architectural height.

If and when the design changes, there will be a filing for it.

Are we talking about the same thing?

I'm talking about that mystery rendering not the axonometric diagram.

That one's a fictional design of mine, from back when all we had was a few floor plans and the outdated zoning diagram.

The tower's facade will most likely be glass and aluminum, though the hotel section's facade is more vague right now. Here is a materials list from a DOB document, annotated with a rendering I've made:

I remember it was posted here before. But most people who read these threads aren't members, and even some members don't know any better when people just randomly post things. That's why I keep things focused on what is.
