This link is more related to downtown business expansion. It's from the Downtown Ithaca Alliance blog:

https://downtownith.com/2017/10/20/t...-new-services/

And here is a construction update for the new Tompkins Financial Corp headquarters going up downtown (from the Ithacating blog):

This is more related to the local economy than a specific project.
Interesting report about job loss from automation (from the Ithaca Voice):

Controversial future for an iconic building in Collegetown. Both sides arguments presented in this Cornell Sun article:

Well, the vote was close, here's the decision (from the Ithaca Voice):

That article is a good recounting of the council session. I usually lean towards preservation myself - money is a real concern but should never be the primary driver for a decision on whether a building lives or dies - there are just so many ways to fund projects, to phase the work, garner support, etc. "We can't afford it" usually sounds like a excuse to me. That said, it sounds like it was a civil and educated discussion, which is good. Those who spoke for not landmarking it probably just had a clearer / stronger voice in the room, which might be what ultimately swayed the vote.

BTW, I agree that $700 - $800K for stucco restoration on a 4-story building in the finger lakes does sound high. For that price, it must be for restoring all elevations, not just the street side, and might also have included some restoration work that went deeper than just the stucco skin (vapor barriers, insulation, flashing, etc).

Here's another summary of the voting from the Cornell Sun, with a picture of the north side of the building included. I have a strong suspicion the Students Agency will provide an attractive replacement which will blend in with the street wall but more likely a couple of floors taller. Hopefully it will retain the outside seating area.

http://cornellsun.com/2017/11/01/cit...oric-landmark/

Here's a picture of the street wall looking from the south end of the block. The Chacona Building is on the north end.

The Facebook page for the new tallest in downtown Ithaca, Harold's Square. Included are demolition video and pics and a video of what the view will be from the top of the building.

Not a new building, but a project long overdue (from the Ithaca Voice):

Here's a pic of the current bridge:

An historic building in downtown area will be renovated and the use will be housing for young professionals instead of the proposed safe heroin injection site. From the Ithaca Voice:

https://ithacavoice.com/2017/11/safe...oric-property/

For reference, the building in question is the light color building in the middle with the Salvation Army on the right side of the pic. To the left is the Southern Tier AIDS Program. Further left is the Tompkins County Social Services building. The next two buildings down are a hair salon and the Cayuga Addiction Recovery Services. I hope the new housing can attract the young professionals to the area. On another note, my brother lives near the next intersection. He finds used needles on the back porch of his apartment quite frequently.

The last two week summaries from the Ithacating blog:

week 11/11

https://ithacating.com/2017/11/12/ne...1-17-its-back/

week 11/18

https://ithacating.com/2017/11/18/ne...ts-11-18-2017/

While I'm excited about the Green Street Garage proposal (Village on the Green), I am a bit worried about the PUD zoning expansion in the first week summary.

A couple of housing construction updates from the Ithacating blog.

First in suburban Lansing:

The second is in the city of Ithaca:

Looks like a developer (Visum) is going to give redevelopment a try for a Collegetown iconic building (the Nines). Post #355 has an article in it about the company dropping its first attempt. This proposal seems to be a better effort to retain the look of the original building. From the Ithaca Voice:

https://ithacavoice.com/2017/11/visu...redevelopment/

Guess it's a wait and see situation now.
