Imo it kicks ass. Are there any other towers in the world dedicated to technology?

The image of the sky line (also in the video) from the Ele is way off...

This is shown from 48th street (their image was from 62nd, and used telescopic lens, which I cant replicate) but from either vantage, the old Comcast Center is completely blocked by the new one.

and here is the other perspective everyone would want to see...

This includes all the +100' buildings that are likely/possible on the way (Castleway is questionable though)

But, .... It's out of proportion, and makes the whole thing look awkward against the skyline from the views shown. It really looks like a bulky and clumsy afterthought.
That particular angle was used to showcase the Comcast Innovation Tower ONLY. Its a terribly limiting angle for the Philly skyline, you might see only 20% of the skyline in that view . The skyline from that location is going to be unimpressive with or without the new tower.

The New Comcast Tower 2 is going to fabulously enhance the Philadelphia skyline from its signature views.

The more I look at this the more it grows on me. Could there be a better design yeah but it seems like Comcast cant afford a super tall with a cool/sleek design. If they could im sure they wouldnt be building a 59 story super tall. It seems like they are more focused on the interior space also.

Comcast will be able to build many more skyscrapers in Philly with all the money they'll make off the death of net neutrality! Though I'm sure the taxpayer subsidies will continue regardless...

I like this one, the only thing that I don't care for is the spire that makes up the tallest point, other than that, it looks good to me.

Bradley Maule has a great observation, as noted in his new Philly Skyline page. He notes that the Comcast Technology and Innovation Center will likely be abbreviated to CTIC, which if you pronounce it as a word sounds like "City I See." Nice.

I guess they'll have to put a statue of William Penn atop the spire...

Quote:
In March 1987, One Liberty Place broke the gentlemen's agreement not to exceed the height of the statue of William Penn atop City Hall. Since the completion of One Liberty Place, no Philadelphia major-league sports team had won a world championship for the next two decades, a phenomenon known as the "Curse of Billy Penn." In an effort to reverse the curse, a 3-foot statue of Penn was affixed to the top of the Comcast Center upon its completion as the city's new tallest building in 2007. On October 29, 2008, the Philadelphia Phillies won the 2008 World Series, effectively ending the "curse".

Neat idea but it's the "Comcast Innovation and Technology Center" not "Comcast Technology and Innovation Center".

I'd go in and just order just a small appetizer, and pay the bill just for the view.

Using that glass elevator is going to be like being in a willy wonka movie. Definitely redefining the preferred tech environment.

3 World Trade Center

This is wonderful news for Philadelphia! I know I'm a late poster, but I wanted to see the "reactions" to the renderings. At first, I wasn't "overwhelmed." Maybe because Comcast already took the "shock" out of it for me. My first impression was that it looked to me a lot like #3 World Trade Center (not constructed yet) The rendering of #3 WTC can be seen on it's own thread. The structure's angled bars reminds me of #3WTC. and CITC's support beams look like a Christmas Tree, if you look at it long enough. Did anyone else think this too? If not, that's okay too. Everyone has different ideas and tastes, that's why I like reading all of your posts. Again, Philadelphia is really on the move!
Speaking of #3 WTC, I noticed many N.Y. bloggers paid a visit here today too!

Yeah, I realized this after making that post. I swear I even checked first! Oh well, CITC is still decent, and as I commented after correcting that, CITC is similar to DITC, and Diggin' in the Crates is still one of my all time favorite hip hop crews. Anything that produces Diamond D, Showbiz & AG, Big L, and Fat Joe can't be all bad.

And that's what this is all about: Fat Joe.

The ACC would have completely overpowered the skyline. This fits in perfectly by breaking the supertall barrier, but not overshadowing the other skyscrapers Philly has. Foster is one of the best architects the world has to offer so I trust his judgment. This thing is going to look great when it's completed.

So after a day this news is buzzing like a wild fire. Many people outside this city in the country are talking about this, and obviously around here as well. I'm digging this vibe!

Cool renderings

Nice renderings Mappy. I like looking at them and trying to figure out how accurate they are, and wonder if the skyline will really look that way.

Ironically this building has been designed by the same architectural firm that designed Two World Trade Center - Lord Norman Foster.
