While the tower is going to be very tall, it seems like the overall size of each floorplate isn't actually that large (comparatively to the commercial/office buildings that are in the immediate area). Perhaps I am imagining things, and the exterior dimensions will be a lot bigger than the pillars and forms would suggest.

It's certainly picked up pace in terms of going skyward...

If you look at the first two completed (double height) floors from pillar to pillar... above the white-out retail windows... that square is the floor-plate for the entire tower (except mechanical levels).

If it gets the height increase to 94 storeys... will almost look rather like a "pencil" tower.

Where is the "increase to 94 floors" coming from? Has the tower design allowed for a height increase?

Yes it's engineered to (easily) accommodate the extra 9 floors.

If you saw the early below grade work (including the first super-columns) and then the early above grade work with the jigsaw puzzle of angled steel and massive "octopus" connectors... all to achieve a column-free retail space for the Apple Store)... you got a good look at just how much steel and concrete this tower will live on top of.

The height increase has been applied for and a decision from the city is expected by the end of this year (perhaps next January due to holiday stuff).

Early above grade steel for the retail space. Super-columns and first angled steel.

The tower is built without a traditional elevator core rising in the middle of the tower (from bedrock)... most of the load work carried by the 8 huge super-columns around the floor-plate perimeter.

Forming up the next walls and super-columns.

thaivic

Overdue to remind us what’s on delivery… a little pic (applied for 9 storeys taller than this image... would likely reach the top of the render below ;-):

Benito

Tons more rebar than we’ve seen before, perhaps related to the first mechanical floors that will rise above this level.

Benito

Extreme angle showing the mechanical floors and their large set-back from the residential floor plates.

They jumped the crane yesterday and busy pouring super-columns and walls today (and maybe some corners).

Already forming the first mechanical level after the last big pour.

Benito

You can see an angled mechanical corner being formed… I think these may be supports for angled beams (mech is inset from a typical floor-plate).

Benito

Benito

First cladding soon on the mega-columns with mounts being installed.

Another big pour underway yesterday, this one for the first mechanical level I believe.

Benito

Note the super-columns are taller for this mech level.

Alien concrete pouring gizmo.

The completed octagonal floor of the first mechanical level (inset from the usual floor-plates).

Moody skies.

Even if Sam gets his approval for the 338.3 metre height here... Pinnacle just checked with a proposed new height for SkyTower (u/c) @ 346.35 metres and 105 storeys.

It's your move Sam (check-mate?).

Benito

Holy rebar Batman.

Lots more forming up and getting closer to another big pour on the mechanical levels.

Benito

Benito

A peek inside the elevator core (still hard to believe there could be nearly 80 more floors of this core… floating above the (core-less) Apple Store at grade).

Benito

Throwback: the massive super-columns and angled steel above grade that have to support the tower (and its residential elevator core) above.

Lots of cladding delivered to the 3rd floor. Hope the worker who unwraps this stuff isn’t off sick.

From Urban Toronto member skycandy, the first smokey glass glazing going up on the left, just as promised by the cladding mock-up seen a long time back. Look forward to seeing the ‘champagne’ cladding on the super-columns
(these 2 tones should look great together).

“Sky candy” indeed.

skycandy

skycandy

skycandy

You can see the metal angle in this glass which will host angled ‘champagne’ exterior cladding as well (same as the super-columns)... to echo the steel hanger support behind.

EDITED TO ADD:

With more added, you can see the location of the angled ‘champagne’ cladding to be installed (with the steel hanger behind).

The One (glazing):

Couldn’t resist… some gorgeous close-ups of the glazing. Got say that Sam is keeping his (render) promises big time.

jer1961

^^ above is 1 Bloor East across the street reflected in the glass.

Am I crazy or did this tower get a 97' height cut? Was that the reason for the slow progress earlier this year?

The request to increase to 338m has not been approved yet. I don't know what's taking so long.
