Amazing pictures! The 40th floor amenities deck is going to be incredible. Seemingly unencumbered views south east and north for the foreseeable future.

Just thinking about what the architectural tour is going to be like once they finish 110 and Wolf Point.

There will be 700'+ tall canyons in all directions.

Curious if anyone prefers the original concept design for this development over the final design.

I couldn't bring myself to like the original designs. I love the towers that are being built. But the general consensus is that they aren't iconic enough for such an iconic site and I agree with that. I would be overjoyed if these were going up on some of those horrible parking lots abutting the Kennedy while waiting for something truly game changing at this site.

I like the refinement to the design of WPE from the original concepts, below, to what is being built. And I'm sure WPS will look nice. As others have noted, it's a missed opportunity for Chicago to have a building short of 900 feet at that location. But the design is quite nice. It'll look great from the River. It could have been truly special at 1,100 feet or higher. But it'll be pretty good.

I've made my peace with the height of WPS, and to be honest, it's because of WPE. The pictures do it some justice, yes, but when you see WPE in person it's seems taller than 679 feet (or wherever it's currently at). WPE is defiantly punching above it's weight, er, height. Maybe the proximity to the (relatively) low slung Merch Mart makes it feel taller? Seeing how WPS is going to be taller still, I think the height junkies among us, all of us really, are going to be pretty pleased. My only gripe is that it's design feels like a derivative of WPE, but maybe this too will be less obvious since it will be oriented differently.

i don't see one as being derivative of the other as much as i see a single coherent composition of made up of two towers.

Yeah, I'm not sure the word derivative in reference to the arts is applicable to a mega project that has a coherent and smooth theme throughout(kind of the point of mega projects). Derivative is usually in used to describe someone failing to properly emulate another's look or doing it so well it's basically a caricature.

Summer Season

Looks like we have another crane onsite Bonobo.

FWIW - I like the squared off architecture 10x better than the previous rounded edges version.

anyway, Summer Season is finally here... [link to video]
