^ Because removing 2 Penn is a prerequisite to building a proper Penn Station - a civic monument and not just a better looking underground concourse. That being said its increasingly looking like we may not get that gift to the city, at least for a couple more decades since razing 2 Penn - and by extension MSG - after hundreds of millions spent on aesthetics and circulation would be somewhat obscene.

I think you can have a station worthy of NYC entirely underground - a monumental street-level building wouldn't necessarily add anything practical to the location beyond being a pretty entranceway.

What I'd like to see more of is what's currently being done at the station - a retrofit of the existing space to increase comfort and functionality, such as higher ceilings, better lighting, more signage/info and a cohesive design.

Concrete is one of the most recyclable materials, it rarely ends up in landfills

Does Vornado own the properties on the east side of 7th ave from 33rd to 34th? That section is so dated and ugly, especially with the giant billboards sitting on a one story building right at street level basically. Especially once the 2 Penn area is completed and the construction clutter is gone it'll look even more out of place. I would tear it down completely/ open it up connecting the 33rd st. plaza to the corner of 34th/ the LIRR 34th entrance. The area gets so congested with foot traffic would be nice.

The dreadful reality of that block is truly a bizarre NYC real estate reality. The old A.S. Beck storefront is the only thing remotely interesting. Razing the whole block for a Penn to Herald Sq pedestrian way is an interesting concept but the land is way too valuable to ever have something like that happen.

Landlord Vornado Realty Trust is currently redeveloping the building, which is adjacent to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden.

They've been testing the lights on the underside of the bustle recently.

Have a feeling the renovation of the plaza at 2 Penn will dramatically improve perception of the area, in the way the LIRR concourse did. Having the overhead of the roof goes a long way to making that plaza feel like part of the complex.

The snapshot of tracks 7 and 8... that is what is called a bonding moment. Extra bonding occurs during the month of December. That and also claustrophobia treatment therapy or CTT for short which involves running to track 7 with 20 seconds to spare until the train leaves and than tripping on the escalator and falling violently onto the concourse. Acrophobia therapy which seeks to cure the disorder can also be found atop of 30 Hudson, by pressing the patients head onto the small glass so they can look down at the street.

Megalophobia: 'an intense fear of large objects such as skyscrapers, airplanes and big statues. Like other specific phobias, megalophobia is highly treatable with a psychological therapy called exposure therapy.'

No0bs and millennials are afraid of their own shadow and have many phobias.

Can only dream of having the OG Penn Station back but maybe if the city gives MSG (aka Dolan) the boot we can have a compromise utilizing 2 Penn fully renovated.

The area needs it for proper development to attract the big-boy commercial tenants that devs like Vornado want.
