Demolition has begun on on the Ward Chipman library at UNBSJ. If the economic spinoff the university and province have touted prove to be true this would be the 2nd most significant project in the city behind the port.

Rocca's sudden emergence as a player in the game since Harbourfront is worthy of note. With this and the monstrously long building at Calabria Estates, he has probably tallied up the most units built/UC in the city in the past couple of years to anyone else.

Plus the original announcement was for 89 units but the contractor’s description indicates 98 units.

The port is on track to move the same volume of TEU's as 2022. ~151K

Maintaining the 72% increase of last year is admirable.

A big goal is to get some of the Suez traffic to call on eastern ports instead of western North America. There was no additional information on that topic.

At this point, I'm guessing that they went for the increased weight rating in order to allow higher container stacking to achieve 800K TEU's in the footprint they have to work with. That will also require equipment capable of working the higher stacks.

Feels a lot busier than last year ship wise, so surprised we are only tracking last year’s numbers.

I thought they were going to fill in the former slip directly south of the two being filled in currently for extra capacity.

We are still using the same infrastructure we had in 2017. 151K is above the rated capacity of what the port is capable of (~125K). The interesting stuff should start in June. We'll be capable of 2 ships in port and larger capacity ships on top of that. Let's see how quickly we can utilize that.

The plans I have seen all showed that smaller slip remaining open. That may be addressed in future.

I just hopped on the live stream this AM. It doesn't look like they are live streaming any other panels. I am hopeful they will at least put outtakes on the PSJ youtube page shortly.

One other thing that Craig Estabrooks mentioned is that they want to make sure their finances are in order because future projects are not going to be on the same level as this initial batch of upgrades. He was definitely alluding to bigger investments. I have to assume this is not the first time the major players are hearing this kind of talk. Both CPKC and Hapag were in the room this morning and I would expect JDI was there as well. My take is that it is way past the drawing on the back of the napkin stage and plans have proceeded to cost and funding. Just some between the lines stuff.

The frequency of ships has definitely increased however the amount of containers being on and off loaded per ship from my observations has decreased. The amount of containers on the dock is nowheres near what it was Summer- Fall 2022. I think this is in part due to the fact the rail yard at the back is now in operation so you can have over a hundred containers sitting there out of plain sight.
