I wonder why they elongated the frustrums of the restaurant at the bottom and how it will affect the overall symmetry.

It was done to match the floor height. The restaurant is a multi-story space. The breaks in the frustums align with the adjacent floors.

They temporarily added blue lights on the blow-through to show support for the medical workers battling covid. I saw something on LinkedIn.

Has anyone noticed that it looks as though they are now lighting the blow through floor at night? Last night it was glowing green. It looks pretty awesome from my perspective in Budlong.

It has been mentioned that it is in honor of the medical workers.

Wow. The nighttime photos reveal structural patterns which, if they had been made visual during the daylight, would have made this building much more

dramatic. It is almost as if its nighttime vertical outlines reduce its daylight shimmer to a reverse shallow silhouette. There is a great feeling of depth and

strong presence in the nighttime photos.

Thanks for sharing, ivi.

You know what, the black louvers don't look all that bad at night. Perhaps Gang did her modeling off the night scenarios and just forgot to do daytime.

temporary for healthcare workers, others are saying. looks like they are using construction lights similar to those lighting other vacant floors at night.

damn. it looks amazing in that shot. i think a glowing blow through floor would look sick, hope the ordinance changes some day

Are we sure that is an actual ordinance? Kamin's been wrong before.

Man that thing is glowing with a green ceiling, i wonder if the green is a tribute to the green lake.

Also is there any reason those louvers are so... big? They take up so much space, it's hard to believe they really needed all that.

Not sure it's a real ordinance, it may just be one of the many evolving provisions and clarifications that apply specifically to the Lakeshore East PD. I'm sure Kamin doesn't want to get into zoning minutiae in an article aimed at the general public.

Generally my impression was that architectural lighting is relatively unregulated in Chicago unless it has a commercial message (i.e. if it's actually a sign, with a logo, slogan, etc). That was the issue with Salesforce Tower, their video wall was some weird mix of art and commercial and not clearly addressed by the existing ordinances, so Rahm had to get it altered.

It does look like the interior of the blow-through floor will be painted a shade of blue-green to come close to the color of curtain wall, while the empty mullions around the perimeter will remain black.

Wow! If they allow to light up the blow through, that's a game changer for the look of this thing. Might actually partially make up for the developers screwing Gang over for having to add that thing.
