I recall from parts of it fell during 2011 snowstorm that wooden roof is probably oldest/near original part of the ballpark. It'll eventually be replaced. Next oldest would be caretaker's house (1923), upper deck (1926), marquee (1934) and salvage outfield brickwork/scoreboard (1937).

Part of the 1060 Project includes the re-installation of green terra-cotta canopies and wrought-iron fencing, similar to what existed on the stadium’s exterior in the 1930s (as seen above before the 1935 World Series).

Any word on if the stalled Addison Park on Clark project is a go?

Quote:
The $140 million development will bring an 8-story mixed-used building with 148 rental units, nearly 170,000 square feet of retail space and 493 parking spots to the corner of Clark and Addison.

A number of local businesses — including Red Ivy, Salt & Pepper Diner and Mullen's on Clark — will be torn down to make way for the project, according to Bennett Lawson, Tunney's chief of staff.

Goose Island founder John Hall closed his Wrigleyville bar late last month, citing the Addison Park on Clark project. He said the business ran on a month-to-month lease, and his landlord couldn't guarantee the bar would remain open through the end of the 2015 Cubs season.

The developers "would like to break ground in the first quarter of next year," Lawson said. "Their plan is to get rolling in the first quarter, demolishing and clearing the site."

Lawson estimates the entire project will take 18 to 24 months.

Developer M&R Development did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Most of the businesses along Addison Street between Clark and Sheffield will be torn down, Lawson said. These include a Starbuck's, 7-Eleven and several small offices.

Two stores at the corner of Addison and Clark will remain standing: Luis Auto Repair, 1031 W. Addison St., and Sports World, 3555 N. Clark St. Lawson said these will remain separate from the Addison Park on Clark project.

Along Clark Street, everything from 3525-3545 N. Clark St. will close. This includes Red Ivy, Mullen's on Clark and Salt & Pepper Diner. Three impacted storefronts have already shut down: Bar Louie, iO Theater and Goose Island Wrigleyville.

I asked Tunney about this last month, and he said he was't sure on exactly when this would start, but said they'll likely demo the site after the season.

This is truly the worst development in the city over the last 15 years IMO (and that is saying something), and I hope it dies a slow painful death. I'd rather have what is currently there than this POS.

Yeah, Addison Park on Clark sux. If only because it will shift the Wrigleyville bar scene and associated douchebags to other parts of the city...

The end result along Clark in the new building could be much, much worse though - can anyone say Hard Rock Cafe? Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville?

Don't fool yourself, the epicenter of Chicago douchebaggery is and will always be Wrigleyville.

But yes, this project is horrendous.

Luckily part of that is surrounded by both an Indian Pub and Thai bar.

The best way to track the douchebag population is to count the Bachlorette party stretch hummers on a saturday night. Last time I was on Division there were like 20 of em. The douchebags smell the heat and are never far behind.

How proposed Wrigley signs could affect rooftops

Quote:
The Ricketts family paid Sheffield Finance an undisclosed price for the buildings at 3637 N. Sheffield — which was torn down and rebuilt just for the rooftop business — 3617 N. Sheffield and 3619 N. Sheffield, Cook County property records show. The Ricketts family will assume no debt on the buildings.

The Rickettses have held a financial interest in a seventh rooftop operation, Down the Line Rooftop, since 2010. Earlier this year, George Loukas, who helped start the rooftop craze years ago, sold two buildings while James Lourgos and his partners sold another.

Just three rooftop businesses on Sheffield aren't owned by the Ricketts family now: Murphy's Rooftop, at the corner of Waveland and Sheffield and above Murphy's Bleachers, and Skybox on Sheffield and Lakeview Baseball Club, which have sued the team in federal court.

Ricketts has said little about the team's plans for the rooftops other than that he plans to keep them in operation. (Chicago Tribune)

Isn't it great how much the urbanists hate all the people in the cities?

most people in Wrigleyville on a given night are not from the city and want nothing to do with the city, other than the Cubs and the bars that leech off them.

its ultimately a shallow nightlife district that offers nothing more than big screen TVs, bad cover bands, buckets of beer, and all the headaches that come along with over-served 21 year olds from Naperville.

sports bars tend attract a certain demographic, and unfortunately the stereotype of that demographic tends to hold true.

Big ass red crane finta go up on Waveland today. Hopefully we will see the steel start going up on the remaining levels of the triangle plaza office building soon.

Also, first time I had noticed today that the southern facade has a nice, gentle curve to it.

The team had planned on moving the bullpens under the bleachers in 2016 as part of the Wrigley renovation project, but that's now being delayed until 2017, and here's why:

Quote:
"The home and visiting bullpens will remain in place for next season," the team said in a statement. "Our plan is to complete the permanent below-grade batting tunnels before moving bullpens."

Underground batting cages will be built next to the new Cubs clubhouse, which is under construction and slated to be ready for opening day of 2016.

But because visiting teams won't have their underground cages ready for use by then, both teams will continue to use the small, outdated cages underneath the left- and right-field bleachers next season, meaning there will be no room for the new bullpens.(Chicago Tribune)

Progress on the Triangle building on September 1 (Bruce Miles)

The triangle area outside Wrigley was "capped" on September 4th, meaning work underneath has begun for Cubs' clubhouse. (Bruce Miles)

Yeah, unfortunately, I don't think they have enough space. I think they will be under the bleacher or behind the bleacher. I think they have to kept the current bullpen near 1st & 3rd base.
