I'm going off the render on page one but is this still planned to go at an angle for eight floors on the south end until it starts a straight vertical climb?

Looks like it's now 9 floors becoming progressively longer and then 2 amenity floors and then starts the part of the building where the NE and SW corners very slowly start expanding until the top. I think this subtle change is going to really impact the appearance of the tower and make it much more visually striking than a plain glass box.

You can see more detailed plans here.

I think he's referring to The Fenchurch Building (The Walkie-Talkie).

Holy shit, this week is going to be Jahn's best work, isn't it?

Seriously, the execution so far along with the final renderings is indicating this tower might be a couple de grace. If this facade quality continues and they use actual curved glass curtain wall with this level of execution and detailing, this will be something else when completed.

Fun fact, I actually was offered an oppurtunity shortly after this was first announced to invest in this building. The minimum investment was some absurdly low number (for a project of this scale) like $100k or something. The kicker was discounted pricing if you wanted to buy a unit.

I didn't take it seriously and didn't have the money to park at the time, but honestly I'm kinda regretting not just shaking out the couch cushions and finding the money to do it. I honestly am no Gloor or Letchinger myself, but I thought there was no way this team was gonna pull this development off and certainly not with anywhere near the degree of architectural distinction they had promised at the get go.

^ it's also fantastic for Jahn's legacy that he'll soon have a "forever tower" prominently standing front and center over the park in his adopted hometown's skyline from now until whenever these kinds of matters won't matter.

It's very good that this tower is finally happening.

For so many levels of mattering.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if this tower actually has curved glass...from the renderings it doesn't look like it

I wonder how that would have worked when they kicked it to all rental.

That south facing concrete partition (load bearing?) wall... I sure hope the cladding in the renderings isn't ve'd out.

That cantilever looks fantastic. Much better and more prominent than it looked in the renderings. Can't wait to see it with cladding, although it looks pretty cool as is.

I hope one day the Jewel site on Wabash and Roosevelt can be a prime spot for another high rise with the option of Jewel anchoring the retail space ala One Chicago with Whole Food. There is the additional parking lot on the other side of the El facing State street. A high rise could go there too. This could make the South Loop skyline more dense, especially with the 78 in the pipeline as well.

Has that been discussed or speculation? I agree though, if you could build two more high rises in those lots it would really fill out the south loop skyline. Might as well tear down that shitty BP gas station and build up there too lol.

But that would mean getting rid of that mattress store at State/Roosevelt and I have a feeling that thing will never die.
