LAS VEGAS | The Edge (Vegas Extreme) | FT | 15 FLOORS ($800 mil+)

Las Vegas: Extreme-sports resort in the pipeline?

Quote:
Plans have been announced for an extreme sports park and hotel on 130 acres just south of the Strip. The $800 million complex called The Edge would offer dirt-bike racing, wakeboarding, surfing, bungee jumping and indoor skydiving, among other activities, and include a 15-story, 640-room hotel.

It sounds highly speculative, with no firm details on funding disclosed, but the developer says he wants to start construction this spring. A similar project, minus the hotel, was proposed last year and is pending a few miles south near M Resort.
Behold, the Return of the Vegas Extreme Resort

Quote:
If you still hold out hope the Resorts World and Alon resorts will be built at the north end of the Strip, spare some of that confidence for a long gestating project that wants to shake up the southern end of Las Vegas Boulevard.

Vegas Extreme has been promised, in one variant or another, to be on the way since 2013, with the very latest incarnation now making its way through the Clark County approval process. Australian entrepreneur Josh Kearney is behind the concept, positioned on 130 acres opposite the Town Square outdoor mall and swallowing up the TaylorMade Golf Experience.

Current plans announce groundbreaking will begin later this year, with the hundreds of millions of dollars investment completed in two phases.

On the way, a resort hotel and a concert and festival venue surrounded by extreme sports activities. The hotel will feature 640 guest rooms, a casino, convention space, restaurants and two rooftop swimming pools.

From your room you will be able to view a "whitewater rapids" lake with an "inflatable activity island," surrounded by three additional lakes designed for "cable wakeboarding," plus a separate surf lake and a more traditional swimming pool with water slides.

A 25,271-square-foot building will include a restaurant and viewing observation spaces to watch the water sports, while another 96,201 square foot structure will host more restaurants, retail and an indoor mountain biking track. You can dare yourself to try indoor skydiving, or enter the "sports activity tower" for rock climbing and bungee jumping. The TaylorMade, nine-hole, par 3 golf course will be kept intact for a more leisurely day out.

A total of 69,936-square-feet of retail buildings hopes to rival Town Square across the street. And to travel from one area to another, guests can opt for the "extreme" approach and zip line between the sites.

The initial building phase will focus on the thrill attractions, sports venues and water rides, with phase two covering the hotel and convention center.

Over the last four years of design changes, the project has even proposed an organic vegetable garden to service the restaurants and imagined the hotel would be built with shipping containers.
