I noticed that too and assumed it doesn't need to be as high because it's an exit ramp and cars would typically be driving slower on it than on the interstate itself. Don't know if that's actually true, but I don't remember there being a soundwall on that portion at all, which tells me the interstate was far enough back from the neighborhoods not to need it, so now it's just the exit ramp that's close enough to warrant a barrier. I definitely don't know what the policies are around those though, so this is all speculation

The New Orleans Redevelopment Authority finalized a deal to take over the Six Flags site from the Industrial Development Board, so that's one agreement done, two more to go. I'm so tired of these incremental moves for that site and still super skeptical it'll ever get off the ground. But at least something is done now.

No one wants permanent responsibility for the site if the deal falls through i guess but that place actually makes a good bit of money off movie shoots alone.

Ditto. The incremental steps are painful and infuriating and there is no need, whatsoever, to drag this on. Enough already.

You may notice a new look around town if you’re driving down Rampart near Canal St. A new hotel is under construction, which will have ground floor commercial space. We’re happy to be starting construction on this incredible set of historic buildings.

I posted details on it a few pages back. Basically it’s short term rental hotel units on the floors above ( all building on the block not destroyed by hard rock ) and the new flagship location for ruby slipper on ground floor along with another commercial space . The new flagship layout looks awesome from what I could tell

Sound walls are complicated, the FHWA requires an analysis but lots of factors go into it - existing noise levels, future projected noise levels, and the vertical/horizontal separation of the highway from "receivers" like homes, schools, and churches. It may be that the expansion was only projected to increase noise levels by a small amount over the status quo, so only a small wall was needed.

And the sponsoring agency (DOTD in this case) can put it to a vote in the community to reduce the height of walls or eliminate them entirely. We had a situation in Chicago where IDOT put in preparations for a sound wall on an elevated freeway, but the local alderman got them killed because some people complained about losing their skyline view.

Seems like there is some calculations going on here because the rest of the wall is looking to be higher. def seems complicated

Isidore Newman School's latest building addition is nearing completion! The Band Rehearsal Hall fronts Jefferson Avenue and connects to the existing Jefferson and Lemle buildings through an impressive structure designed by Woodward's Design and Engineering Groups. Architect Blake Bergeron led a design tour to preview the collegiate-level space with its soaring ceilings and modern design. We can't wait until the final touches are in place!

Huge riverfront development project gets approval from Convention Center board

https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...f01d5d904.html

A massive new riverfront development in downtown New Orleans has received formal approval to move forward, following years of haggling over how the roughly 45-acre tract of publicly-owned real estate controlled by the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center would be put to use.

Developers of the neighborhood, known as the River District, secured the votes they needed from the Convention Center's board members on Wednesday by offering to increase the number of affordable-housing units and providing more details on a long-promised Civil Rights museum.

"It is an exciting day for many reasons and a major milestone for this project," said Michael Sawaya, the Convention Center's president and general manager. He has been negotiating for nearly a year-and-a-half with the developer consortium — the River District Neighborhood Investors — over their investment commitments and terms to lease the state-owned land, which is valued at about $250 million.

A long road
The Convention Center has owned the acreage that sits along its upriver edge for about 20 years and has been trying to develop it in one form or another for nearly that long.

The vision approved last year, when RDNI was chosen as master developer for the project, was to build an entertainment-focused neighborhood that would create another destination for visitors besides the French Quarter.

As well as the residential component, RDNI has promised to build about 350,000 square feet of office space, 115,000 square feet of retail space (shops, restaurants), and entertainment and cultural venues over the next decade in an effort to create a whole new city district.

"This is what the city needs and exactly the project we ought to be doing right now," said Louis Lauricella, the local developer who is leading the RDNI consortium.

Despite many hurdles yet to be overcome before building can get underway, including environmental approvals, infrastructure investment to improve roads, and agreements with City Hall, Lauricella said he's confident the huge project will be completed.

"This project is going to get done, it is just that simple," he told the board.
