Somehow missed this, but they got the new construction permit issued for the foundation only on Tuesday!

About 8 or 9 pieces of heavy equipment poking around this and the park site today. Looked like they were digging up and clearing debris mostly.

Aside from faux limestone panels, what's not to like about this? It's a great iteration of 21st century Art Deco.

I find myself really dubious about the asymmetrical top. I want to like it as a reinterpretation of the Palmolive Building, but I can't figure out if the way the massing here is stairstepped is a Postmodernist wink-and-a-nod or if it's entirely programmatic. Even stranger is the imbalance between north and south, with this terrace not having any counterpart on the other side.

I like the last rendering. The 2nd to last one is decent too, though the furniture they picked for it pretty much sucks. Hope it's better in real life

This has all the elegance and grace of Lincoln Park 2550. I bet Trump would love it.

I really can't wait for this one! I'm so tired of all these boring glass buildings going up and really miss all the custard yellow pre-cast of the 00s! Thank you, AM Stern, for such a beautiful addition to our city's skyline. I feel honored.

I've read several comments here about people liking the top of this building. I don't see it, for those who comment how much they like the top, what is it I am missing?

to me the top is a 2016 twist. It takes the building from straight up art deco imitation into a little more self-awareness

and it just kind of looks cool. reminds me of fake buildings they CGI-ed into dark knight to make chicago look more like gotham

I can't wait to see 2-3 more years of Tom Servo whining and bitching about this building

I wish we could've just gotten a copy of 220 Central Park South, instead of the tower RAM designed for Chicago

^^I would call that lampooning.

^or at the very least that color but i'm guessing that you can't do that with precast because it's shitty and will stain?

Couldn't disagree more. The Chicago version is painted concrete and the proportions look really awkward, IMO. The CPS version is far from great, but much nicer IMO

Those renderings look great! This building will have quite the presence by the lake but be dwarfed by Vista

Cut the awkward top-most section off and I'd agree with you.

say what?

everything we've been told about this one is that it will have real stone at the base and precast above.

i've never heard any mention of painted concrete on this one until your post. do you have insider VE info, or are you just fearing the worst?
