ST. LOUIS | One Hundred | 385 FEET | 36 FLOORS

New tower proposed for the Central West End (Central Corridor/Forest Park).

36-story apartment tower planned for Central West End site on Kingshighway
By Tim Bryant
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
12/08/16

A 36-story, strikingly modern apartment tower is expected to rise next year from a Central West End parking lot and top out as the city of St. Louis’ tallest residential building.

The project’s architect is Studio Gang, headed by Jeanne Gang, a 2011 MacArthur Foundation fellow whose designs include the acclaimed Aqua Tower in Chicago.

At 385 feet, the mostly glass St. Louis building overlooking Forest Park at 100 North Kingshighway is set to be 75 feet taller than the Chase Park Plaza just to the north and 55 feet taller than the Park East Tower two blocks away. It also will be 65 feet taller than the apartment building planned for Ballpark Village downtown, according to Emporis, a building information firm in Hamburg, Germany.

Wow, now that wasn't near what I was expecting for that site. I love it. What very modern looking tower for STL, I even get a little art deco vibe on this one.

looks like it! it's about time that the frontage on forest park got some action...it's always been strange to me that there havent been more proposals along this stretch. instead they have all been further towards the middle of the central west end. it's supposed to be our W 59th street, or whatever.

This would be the tallest residential building in the City of St. Louis.

On the other hand, Clayton on the Plaza (in downtown Clayton) rises 409'. Completed in 2005, it is the tallest new residential construction in metro St. Louis and the State of Missouri - so far.

Once completed, KC's rehabbed P&L Tower will be the tallest residential building in Missouri - new or rehabbed - at 476'.

Apparently, there were not too many NIMBYS/Shit-disturbers to show up at the Town Hall. So far, a really good sign this project could happen. NIMBYS in this neighborhood have killed a many solid projects in the past.

Developers proposing 36-story apartment tower in Central West End present plan to neighbors
By Tim Bryant
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

An overflow crowd listened Monday night to a developer and an architect describe their $130 million project to build a 36-story apartment building in the Central West End.

The project, called One Hundred, is proposed for the parking lot at North Kingshighway and West Pine Boulevard.

Alderman Joe Roddy, whose 17th Ward includes the project’s site, arranged the meeting for the public to hear from Eli Ungar, founder of the developer, Mac Properties, and Juliane Wolf, design principal at Studio Gang, the architect.

Ungar and Wolf provided the crowd of more than 100 people at the Schlafly branch library their views on how the 305-unit apartment tower would affect the St. Louis neighborhood.

Wolf said the building’s scallop-shaped facade would provide each apartment with lots of daylight and ventilation. Ungar said he believed One Hundred’s strikingly modern design would impress people in the future the way the neighborhood’s old buildings were revered now.

Plans for 36-story apartment tower in Central West End inch ahead
By Tim Bryant
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The project to build a 36-story apartment tower on Kingshighway moved ahead Tuesday when a St. Louis board agreed to back the proposal with a tax incentive.

With little discussion, the board of the Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority voted to support tax abatement requested by the project’s developer, Mac Properties.

The developer plans to build a $130 million, 305-unit apartment tower overlooking Forest Park at North Kingshighway and West Pine Boulevard.

Eli Ungar, founder of Mac Properties, told the LCRA board the project — named One Hundred — needed tax abatement to make the Central West End project financially feasible.
