Take a close look at the cutout on Comcast 1. They've turned the building around. Not sure how the artist screws that up.

Also, FMC is in the rendering, all the way at the right side.
The large cutout in the Comcast Center faces south in real life. In that rendering the large cutout is facing north. Pedantic maybe... but still a good catch.

I think the move was the make it appear less prominent in the rendering so it wouldn't distract from this project. That's my guess.

I'd say it's well under way.

And it's not just the Cira buildings. In the last 5-10 years the skyline of a small city popped up along Market St. between Drexel and the Science Center and no one takes any pics of it, but it's getting to be pretty impressive, from say, the Spring Garden Bridge and around that general vicinity.

The area around Drexel has seen a wave of construction, but nowhere near as tall as the Cira Center, or especially the FMC Tower. With Schuylkill Yards and 30th Street District coming up, they will be even smaller than they already appeared.

Well, that's a bit unfair.

Great catch on the Comcast Center, though. I've seen it a million times and didn't notice it in this render - and trust me, I've looked at every square inch of these images. The real reason it had to be added was that the original base image was from Google Earth, and the facade of the building looks terrible in GE. So that, along with Comcast 2, FMC, etc, were added as part of the rendering. Stitching new city into existing photographs is a tricky business.

If we're keeping track, Cira Center is wonky in that rendering too. Also, the background for the night time skyline is from LA.

Also, it looks like the Delaware River is way closer to the Schuylkill than in real life, and is way larger. Perhaps that's just me.

How long are we going to be bashing that rendering?

We are enjoying it.

This was the last view that got done - and you might notice it is the one that isn't typically featured in the marketing material.

Like I said, stitching into existing images is tricky business.

The baseball fields on the Parkway make no sense.

IMO It would be perfect for a 'commons' or garden similar to what Boston has. Do people think this is a good use of land as is?

The people who use them generally seem to. But that's to be expected.

IMO the baseball diamonds can easily be moved behind the Art Museum. I kind of like your Commons suggestion, but my position is that the baseball fields block is best used for development -- and not necessarily of a museum, either. The Parkway tries to mix city and park, and I think the opposite -- a sharp distinction between the two -- is what's really important here.

While the baseball fields are nice as they are (even Central Park has them) I really would appreciate a large park like the aforementioned Boston Common. Of course, we have our fair share of parks, but what the hell?

A new museum would always be cool, and I think Philly should have a museum solely focused on modern art, but that's not the right place for it.

it would be a good spot to collect all those crazy North Broad "light" poles and try to do something interesting with them.
If the Calder museum idea every gets new life this would be a great spot for it; especially since that museum would require lots of outdoor space to show his work at the proper scale.

"Amtrak issued a Requests For Proposals for a master developer to develop a parcel of land adjacent to the station with final selection in late 2017. Amtrak will also begin a solicitation in mid-2017 for a master developer to develop the station and surrounding area."

Looks like we could see renders for the Cira II site (unless the master developer goes along with the original design) later on this year or early next year!
