I really don't care which tower goes up first as any new build on that site is a welcome sight when looking at the dimming tower construction future in Calgary. Now to get something going on the south side of 9th Avenue there.

If you go by the site today it is filled with water. They hit a water main and now it is a big swimming pool! So we will see some major delays on this one.

Did they really hit a water main? they should know where all utilities are before excavating. There is a very high water table downtown and it's possible they hit an underground stream that the geotechnical report missed.

Mistakes do happen though, I remember the Xenex project hitting a sewer main when anchoring their shoring. They ended up filling it with concrete and all the toilets and sinks in the buildings in the area started back flowing...

That was my thinking when I first read this. Something similar happened when the first tower for Bankers Hall was being built.

Yup. Ninth Avenue slid into the pit. Many lawsuits followed.

Hard not to be dusty when you're excavating...

If only they poured concrete over the dirt it would cut down on the soil blowing away. Then they could put some buildings on top too if they wished!

Probably just deflection from the wind, and I'm sure it was designed to do that. Still a bit disconcerting though...

It's not the balcony moving. You can clearly see other subjects in background moving also. It's the camera moving and the way it's focused makes it look like the balcony is moving but it's not.
