Hey!
That looks like a 21st century version of Denver's "Cashie" Wells Fargo Center (originally named United Bank Building).

And here is the base and atrium of Denver's Wells Fargo Center - it too has similarities to the China Merchants Bank Tower.

Denver's Wells Fargo Center (originally United Bank Building) was built in 1983 and the China Merchants Bank Tower is 25 years later. You can see obvious differences in the designs because of that style change over the last 25 years, but there are also clear similarities.

^I think that two pictures hijacking a thread with the intent of boosting your locality is quite enough.

Fortunately there are plenty of those that are much better kept (and thus won't be torn down) in the area.

Aug. 21st. Took a stroll along North Sichuan Rd., camera in tow.

Rose Plaza

Jia Jie International

(...and apparently, downtown Seattle as well )

...and this one going up at N. Sichuan and Wu Jin Road (forgot to check out the sign for the info--looks like it's being built above the currently U/C line 10 subway--and probably over 100m)

OK. I'll hunt for the rendering. I should go out there and check out a few plots anyway.

Competition Winners Announced for Massive Shanghai Project

Quote:
Major mixed-use projects in China, which tend to feature skyscraping towers at their epicentres, often initiate an international design competition to ensure a remarkable end result. The winners of these design competitions are then tasked with seeing massive projects through to completion. On February 22, it was announced that Goettsch Partners out of Chicago and Hong Kong-based multidisciplinary architecture and design studio Lead 8 have won such a contest for a site in Shanghai.

Shanghai looks to five suburbs to reduce population density in China’s commercial hub
Apr 14, 2021
South China Morning Post Excerpt

Shanghai’s authorities have unveiled a grand plan to develop new townships out of five suburban districts to relieve the population density in the sprawling megapolis of almost 25 million people.

Five new towns will be developed in the Qingpu, Fengxian, Jiading, Nanhui and Songjiang districts, where Shanghai mayor Gong Zheng had promised to build major industrial projects with high-quality public infrastructure and comprehensive transport hubs.

The grand plan is already attracting early investors to cherry-pick on the best land plots and most promising districts. Among the five, Nanhui offers the best potential for growth because it encompasses the Lingang free-trade zone (FTZ), where Tesla has chosen to locate its US$2 billion Gigafactory 3 electric car factory, said Yin Ran, an angel investor with a property portfolio in Shanghai.

New nighttime bazaar symbolizes redevelopment of North Bund
Shanghai Daily Excerpt
April 30, 2021

A nighttime bazaar has been launched along Suzhou Creek in Hongkou District to create a demonstration of the cultural and tourist attractions on the North Bund.

The Embankment Origin fashion market opens at 5pm every weekend on Beisuzhou Road along the creek, featuring music, wine and traditional hanfu traditional Chinese costumes.

Handmade clothes, cultural souvenirs and daily commodities are available at many stalls along the pedestrian-only street, as well as food and street performances.

“The newly unveiled nightlife market aims to develop a comfortable public space during the ongoing development of the North Bund,” the Hongkou District government said. It is expected to become one of the most popular social and entertainment attractions on the North Bund.

At the opening session of the market this month, 50 models wearing hanfu walked among visitors and posed with them. Street artists and musicians presented live performances. Wine and alcohol from both home and abroad were available.

Suzhou Creek flows through six Shanghai districts and 180 years of the city’s modern history. Its redevelopment has given citizens a continuous 42-kilometer pedestrian corridor along the creek.

Beginning at the intersection of Suzhou Creek and Huangpu River, people can stroll along 900 meters of walkways next to the creek that flows through Hongkou.

The Beisuzhou Road walkway, opened in December, is one of the most scenic segments of the longer creekside path, featuring many preserved historical buildings with the former glory of the region.
