Anyone know the deal with the inclined ramps on along the south elevation about three or four levels up?
Looks like parking ramps but I assumed that was all below grade?

Green (Vinyl coated) re-bar is almost always used for parking facilities.

There are nearly 1,100 parking spaces from LL4 to L7. You are correct that those are parking ramps.

It is a stick framed curtainwall system, so over the coming weeks we will start to see vertical mullions begin in these areas. There are 3 facade contractors on the project with different start times all before the 1st of June.

This project must take the cake for most city altering/gap filling project this cycle. This transforms the entire near north side.

Project is the equivalent of what JHC did for north michigan avenue this will do for river north... a signature tower that anchors this neighborhood and will spur development all around it

Not sure the area needed much help on the development front. In the past several years the immediate three-block area added: Aurelien, Eight O Five, 8 E. Huron, Bush Temple tower, 56 Huron, Home2 Suites, State & Chestnut, Exhibit, 9 Walton, the Ardus, and probably a few that I'm forgetting. But it would be great to get that big lot behind the Lawson House developed, the Moody land too.

I'd still give it to Vista by a hair but yea, it's damn close. The location may be slightly better too.

Still not loving the size of the podium--especially the west/south elevations. And it looks like there's three levels yet to go.

What superior alternative is there to a podium for such a large project, especially when it will have hundreds of thousands of square feet of retail? Parking lots? Unused green space? 2 story copy/paste "town homes"?

Even if there was a better alternative, this project would not be feasible without a podium. We should be thankful that this podium will have significant surface level interaction, and thankful for the fact that such a project is actually underway in this location.

It's really not a bad podium by any means. It has multiple heights, layers, detail, lots of windows, etc. Not to mention there is no podium at the tower, at SE corner of site.

I think the issue isn't with the fact that there is a podium, it's that this project has too much parking which makes the podium larger than it has to be. If I remember correctly there are over 600+ parking spaces in this development (could someone correct me if I'm wrong) which even given the number of spaces needed for parishioners at Holy Name is a lot. Or at least that was the argument I remember.

There are around 1,100 parking spaces serving Holy Name, 800+ residential units, a Whole Foods, Life Time Fitness, a restaurant, other retail and office space.

Ah, thanks. That's the number. Still a lot of spaces even given all those uses plus the site has great transit connectivity. I know we've already been over this before so we should probably move but it's worth noting due to the podium size complaints.
