I wonder if the average passer-by on the street who isn't a skyscraper nerd like us really understands what is going up here. I mean, to the uninformed, this isn't a particularly wide building with noticeably thicker columns. So for all they know, this could be another 30-story Brooklyn tower going up.

People in general don't really pay attention to skyscrapers. And there's so much construction going on that things stand out even less. Also, this didn't have to go through an approvals process, so there was no drawn out battle in the news. But there are pictures of the building posted around site. It is a massive construction site, as it also entails the Bank building. Add to that the fact that Junior's (the restaurant the makes up the rest of the block) is a popular spot. And the Fulton Mall (which it practically sits on) is always busy. I wonder if that had a factor in some random person coming up to me to tell me what it was when I was taking photos. Not sure. But it's in the realm of mind for some already, and when it begins to dwarf everything else - which should be sometime before the summer - more people will notice. I will be super excited when we start to see cladding on site.

Short news video about Brooklyn's tallest tower, but they end by pointing out 9 DeKalb...

While Brooklyn Point stands tall, it won't be the highest for long. Across from City Point, at the landmark Dime Savings Bank, construction is underway for 9 DeKalb Avenue, which will eclipse all others at 73 stories.

So much going on that I can't remember, is there anything currently planned to rise in place of the schlock in the foreground? Because honestly, it is CRYING OUT for something impressive.

^ Wonder if there's a height bump from that filing. No new zoning diagram yet.

A tale of two developments, but eventually we'll have both...

BHS breaks from norm with advisory arm on development
New

By Erin Hudson

Quote:
Led by Robin Schneiderman and Stephen Kliegerman, the new research and advisory arm will provide data and consulting for residential condo and multifamily rental projects.

“It’s what I call the Covid project,” said Schneiderman. “It’s something that nobody has ever formalized and I think, especially in the times we’re in now and headed forward, everybody is in need of data.”

The consultancy will help developers land financing, plan uses for development sites and even help projects time the market, according to Schneiderman.

Its services will include preparing investment proposals, auditing marketing plans, custom analytics for projects, and third-party architectural reviews.

It is work Schneiderman has been doing on an ad hoc basis for several clients, such as helping JDS Development land a $240 million mezzanine loan from Silverstein Capital Partners for 9 DeKalb Avenue, and advising Madison Equities and Gemdale Properties to hold off on starting construction at 45 Broad Street.

I can't wait to see this built-it is going to look so great-such a beauty and it will really stand out and not be crowded out by other buildings. If some of these units are "affordable" how does one get their way into this building! lol. I would be fine with using a "poor door" and all!

Probably the frame of reference. If stuck somewhere in Midtown, it would not appear as dominant. Heck, in some areas, its short.

Shame with the downsizing of 80 Flatbush come to think about it.
