Is there demand for this much new office space? With COVID and everything I just don't know especially given that the downtown wasn't too full beforehand to begin with to my knowledge.

I am disappointed to see this new plan doesn't have any plans for the rest of the Ilitch owned older buildings near Temple Street. It also looks like this plan would demolish 2310 Cass as well as Hockeytown cafe...

I do like that it builds the otherside of the street along Woodward though, across from the Fox.

His plan is to bring in companies from out of state. And downtown office vacancy rates were extremely low before the pandemic. IDK what you mean there.

Mike Epps to open One Mike comedy club in downtown Detroit's old Punch Bowl Social space

The venue has quietly set up social media accounts in recent weeks, with pages at Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

“One Mike Comedy club opening soon in Detroit,” reads a tagline on the Instagram account.

New Midtown Detroit apartments planned for site of idled solar panels

A new four-story apartment building has been proposed in Midtown Detroit on land where there is now a pair of unused solar panel arrays.

The 57-unit building would be built at 3740 Second Ave., next to the existing Brainard Apartments building that was damaged in a February 2020 fire and is just starting to welcome tenants again.

The two solar-panel arrays, which date to the early 2010s, once supplied some electricity to the Brainard Apartments at 484 Brainard. Since the fire, the solar panels have stayed off.

The project's developer is Greatwater Opportunity Capital, which acquired the site and the neighboring fire-damaged Brainard Apartments in late 2020. Greatwater owns several other apartment buildings and planned new housing developments in the area.

I didn't expect to see this proposal get revived, hopefully it happens this time.

Fort Pontchartrain hotel owners revive plan for second tower

Other details about the plan are not yet known. Messages were left with two hotel representatives on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The renewed effort comes as other developers seek to add to the downtown core's hotel stock as major events like the NFL Draft in 2024 and the NCAA men's basketball Final Four in 2027.

Yeah, I’d rather see a new, more modern design instead of one identical to the original tower.

Glad to hear the project is back on track, though.

Bills would give Huntington Place new funding, flexibility as it seeks to lure hotel on JLA site

The bills would also extend a $5 million annual subsidy for the QLine streetcar for an additional 17 years.

The Republican-led Senate approved the measures 24-12 and 27-10 on Tuesday after discharging them from a committee, which held no hearing since their introduction about three weeks ago. The Republican-controlled House could vote on the legislation next week before adjourning for the year.

The impetus is "allowing Huntington Place to have a little more money, a little more flexibility," said the sponsor, Republican Sen. Wayne Schmidt of Traverse City.
