Casino giant Genting Group gears up for hotel/county bus terminal combo

Quote:
Construction related to a mixed-use development encompassing the Omni bus terminal, Adrienne Arsht Center Metromover station and a planned hotel and retail center should begin before December, according to county transportation spokesperson Karla Damian.

Resorts World Miami, a subsidiary of Malaysian casino giant Genting Group, is to build a temporary bus station east of the current Omni terminal on North Bayshore Drive in or near the fourth quarter of this year. The station is to take about six months to complete and be used by riders during reconstruction of the Omni terminal.

The temporary station marks the first major move forward for the joint development since its unanimous approval by Miami-Dade County commissioners on April 18, 2017.

A timetable for the total project, including construction of the hotel, retail space and upgrades to the adjacent Metromover station, has yet to be determined, Ms. Damian said, adding that to minimize service interruption and ensure maximum safety, the temporary station must first be built before improvements to the existing bus terminal and Metromover begin.

RESORTS WORLD MIAMI A STEP CLOSER TO BEGINNING WORK ON OMNI TERMINAL REDEVELOPMENT, WHICH INCLUDES 36-STORY TOWER

Quote:
A plan by Resorts World Miami to redevelop the Omni Terminal is one step closer, after paperwork was recorded earlier this month paving the way for work to begin.

A Unity of Title document was recorded with the county, allowing for the property to be developed as a single site, and for Northeast 14th Street to be vacated. The paperwork had actually been signed at the beginning of the year, but not recorded until this month.

Resorts World will build a temporary bus terminal nearby during construction. Records show a construction permit pending at 265 Northeast 16 Street, on company-owned property.

At the Omni terminal, the project will include a 36-story tower at a cost of $200 million, with hotel and residential units. The Metromover station will be renovated and integrated, along with a new air-conditioned bus terminal and retail space.

Florida Legislators Approve Deal Making It Easier To Bring Casinos To Miami
https://www.thenextmiami.com/florida...sino-to-miami/

Florida lawmakers approved a deal with the Seminoles last week that will make it easier to bring casinos to Miami, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Although a casino in Miami is now one step closer, there are still obstacles.

The newly approved agreement with the Seminoles states that they will not object to a new casino that is further than 15 miles away from their resort in Hollywood.

In theory, that would allow for gambling at Genting’s Resorts World Miami, Trump Doral, or at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

On Friday, the company submitted platting documents to Miami-Dade county that lays the groundwork for construction permitting to begin.

The application was signed for by Kevin Jones, who is listed as the Chief Strategy and Legal Officer for Resorts World.

The new plat will include a monorail and bus station, the documents state.

Genting wants to sell 15.5 Acres of land near the waterfront which encapsulates this property, for around 1 Billion dollars. They said they want to focus on other state casinos, like New York and Nevada. This is officially canceled unless some developer revives the plans.

IDK why Florida is being stubborn over a casino. Will be good for the local economy. Jobs... revenue... tourism. The Seminoles just need to ramp up to not fall to a competitor.

As long as it isn't tacky, it's cool with me. I can see the lights from the "beautiful" Seminole Hard Rock from my house.

Article on NXT says Genting is retaining 10 acres and plans to accelerate development.

Yes, they are keeping the old Omni mall property and are selling off the old Miami Herald lots. Either way, whoever buys it will pretty much have to build something extraordinary considering the price they will have to pay for it.

Would be nice if this manifested into a World Center type of development. A long term, multi-tower(s) project. A lot of units can go into this parcel and so, its a good opportunity for long term residential growth in a prime area. Or a good large scale mixed-use opportunity.

Any ROI will come via long term prospects, considering the investment.

Bids Are In: Former Miami Herald Site Could Sell For Nearly $1.5 Billion

March 27, 2023

The former Herald site in downtown Miami is attracting significant interest from developers, according to Bloomberg.
Bids are coming in at prices which could set a U.S. record for a development site, listing broker Michael Fay told the news service.

The highest bid came in at just under $1.5 billion.
A total of five of the bids exceeded $1 billion, Fay said.
Based on those bids, the property could become the most expensive development site in the country, Fay added.
Bids are coming from both international and domestic developers.

The Miami Herald’s parent company sold the property to Resorts World Miami LLC in 2011 for $211,812,040.
