Oakland, CA

My partner and I made ourselves a 4-day weekend and went to San Francisco and Oakland.

But here are some pics I took of Oakland. Sunday, 10.30.2022.

Adjacent to Fruitvale Station, we just happened to catch a Día de Los Muertos festival.

The College Avenue/Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland has a completely different vibe from the other neighborhoods we were in. We didn't explore it. Some other time, I guess.

There are some beautiful buildings in downtown Oakland.

Looks very quiet... I'm guessing it was because of day of the week/time of day?

Yes; we got into downtown Oakland around 9:15am-ish on Sunday, so it was still pretty quiet/sleepy. Some people were walking around; the people in Chinatown seem to start their Sunday mornings early, as we saw people walking and shopping, mainly elderly people. There was a restaurant I wanted to check out in downtown Oakland but they weren't open yet, they opened at 11:30am and we didn't want to wait. We walked around downtown and then decided to push on to other neighborhoods. By the time we got to Fruitvale, it was already pretty busy. Trafficky too, because of the Día de Los Muertos festival. They had closed off International Blvd. for some blocks, which created a very trafficky detour. Had I known about it, I would've just parked at a BART station and take BART to Fruitvale Station. We would have tried to eat lunch in Rockridge but it was really crowded with parents and their costumed/trick-or-treating kids (I guess the businesses were handing out candy the day before Halloween) and it seemed like parking was gonna be a problem, so we drove into Berkeley for lunch instead. Rockridge is that last picture of my post.

There's home! Yes, Sunday mornings are rather quiet downtown. If you're a fan of craftsman bungalows like me, you'll definitely want to make some time whenever you're next in Oakland to explore the residential areas in Rockridge. Love the homes in that area!
