The View-Secret to Happiness: Living in A City?

I definitely love the amenities and vibrancy of SF and Oakland but I prefer feeling like I live in a small town environment, hence Piedmont

^^As I've described, I now live just about half the year in downtown SF and half in a small town/exurb of Tucson in Arizona. I can sympathize with the comments in that video about the "ethnic section" in the supermarkets. Obviously in Tucson, the markets have plenty of Hispanic products, but used to have almost nothing in the way of Asian or any kind of foods from other than Mexico and the US. When I went down there, I used to take at least two large bags of "ethnic" condiments and groceries with me. But the internet has now made all that unnecessary. You can get anything anywhere.

I hate small towns. Depressing, have to drive, everyone’s up in your business.

Not to mention how they are all subsidized by cities.

there's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all "secret to happiness".

different people are bound to like and prefer different things.

as for me, my most favorite aspect of city living (and it wasn't even brought up in the clip) is being able to conveniently walk to numerous destinations.

the older i get, the more i realize how fundamental that is to my overall sense of well-being and satisfaction with where i live.

now, you don't necessarily need to live in a big city to have walkability, but the lion's share of truly functional walkable urbanism in this country is found in the big old school cities.

human communities designed for human beings are my jam.
