The building will contain about 65 large condos geared toward families desiring luxury city living overlooking the lakeshore and Maggie Daley Park.
Huh? Will even the top floors of this be able to look down on Maggie Daley? If they'd just said Grant Park, sure. But the north portion of the park is going to be blocked by all the LSE buildings. Especially once Vista is built, won't even have a glimpse.

Interesting. I don't see any pending building permits under 451 E Grand, or any odd number between 439 and 469 for Grand.

Well, maybe "starting in a few days" means moving dirt around. Real foundation work probably is several weeks away?

Isn't there already foundation work done? I can't remember but I am pretty sure I heard something about the foundation already being in place from when the parking garage was built

Yeah the foundation and underground parking garage are already done I thought. If so, thank God, no ugly facade on a podium

Yes and no.

The podium will overhang the underground garage slightly and those foundations are obviously already in place. However, we're looking at 38 new caissons for the tower.

I forget what's at the base at this point. No restaurant or retail space?

Nope. Strictly residential.

Getting started soon. I'm surprised with all the positive comments on the article. Although I'm in the minority and actually like this design, and think it's going to come out nice.

Won't look too tall net to the neighboring Wanda Vista tower

But yea it's about time Chi town broke ground on another 250+ meter building.

I think once this one starts it will be the tallest project under construction in the whole city? That said Chicago skyline is about to undergo major change height wise with vista tower, vinoly tower, jahn lurking around the corner

Not only will this one be the tallest U/C in the whole city, it will also be the first tower over 800' to go U/C in chicago since the legacy was completed in 2010.

IF these get built...

Also, why are we all celebrating how tall this pos is?? Its height is the worst aspect of this building as it will be yet another far-too-prominant stack of shit like its Park Hyatt cousin. These heinous precast turds are better off short so they can stay buried out of sight. Just sayin...

^^^ Bingo, as much as I love tall buildings, it's at best bittersweet to see something like this start. I love that it heralds the first of hopefully a whole new round of major projects here, but the design is so distasteful that I can't enjoy it. I'm hoping that Wanda at least starts, then we will have something that is at least somewhat interesting going on. Enough with the 30 story bland filler, let's get something wild going on and Park Tower 2.0 doesn't count.
