Renderings of a downtown Miami tower planned by Emilio and Gloria Estefan have appeared on the website of Fernando Romero EnterprisE, as pointed out to us by an astute reader (Romero is also designing the LAAM).

Earlier this year, the Estefans announced that they would be building a mixed-use project at 1400 NE 1 Ave, west of the School Board property. Melo Group is the only other developer that is active in the area.

The mixed-use project, called EE Miami, will be about 520,000 square feet. In addition to a Bongos, it will include apartments, office space, retail and restaurant use.

"Emilio Estefan, one of the most important music producers of our time, invited FR-EE to design a new milestone in the very heart of the Arts & Entertainment District of Miami. After analyzing the context of the site, FR-EE proposed a creative design for the typology of the tower, in order to develop an iconic project in context with the new language of the city.

The design intends to be a metaphor of the city’s diversity. The building embodies it in the form of retail, services, amenities, offices and apartments, with the aim of celebrating Miami and stress the hallmarks: its diversity and its music. E. E. Miami includes everything necessary for daily life: shopping, restaurants, cafés, apartments, offices, parking lot and amenities. The changes in color (from light green fading into magenta as it ascends) and the height variations of the parapets (which can be used for advertising at the parking levels) give a dramatic dynamism to the façade."

I like the design and it's proximity to the Performing Arts Center which is visible in the first photo. That is a lot of parking though considering you can see there is a Metromover station right across the street.

And why did the 2nd rendering put it in Downtown Fort Lauderdale?

My guess is to make the tower stand out and give the illusion that it is taller. If we compare it to the surrounding nearby towers, its actually small. But still, that is a rendering fail but somewhat intentional.
