Hey, number one is in Galveston; the 1892 Bishops Palace. I love that building. Ive photographed it many times, one of the best examples of high Victorian architecture in the US. All really good photos all around guys, good work.

Maybe we should have had a clarifying discussion before the contest. In fact, after reading about Victorian Architecture, it seems to cover at least a half dozen styles. The term is used to describe slightly different styles in the US vs the UK.

Quote:
In the United States, 'Victorian' architecture generally describes styles that were most popular between 1860 and 1900. A list of these styles most commonly includes Second Empire (1855–85), Stick-Eastlake (1860–ca. 1890), Queen Anne (1880–1910), Richardsonian Romanesque (1880–1900), and Shingle (1880–1900). As in the United Kingdom, examples of Gothic Revival and Italianate continued to be constructed during this period, and are therefore sometimes called Victorian. Some historians classify the later years of Gothic Revival as a distinctive Victorian style named High Victorian Gothic

St. Pancras is without question a product of Victorian Gothic.

As the poll is now closed, without further adieu the winner of the Photo Contest #3 (Victorian Architecture) is: Photo #3, taken by photoLith! As is tradition, he now has the right to choose the topic of the next photo contest, which will begin in approximately one week. I am allowing two wins in a row, especially given how close this contest was. So let's summarize all of the entries submitted, starting with second place:

2nd Place: Photo #8 (untitled), submitted by Okayyou.
3rd Place (Tie): Photo #1 (Untitled), submitted by LSyd.
3rd Place (Tie): Photo #6 (A peek inside...), submitted by Glowrock.
3rd Place (Tie): Photo #7 (Southern Charm), submitted by Surrealplaces.
4th Place (Tie): Photo #2 (Untitled), submitted by John R..
4th Place (Tie): Photo #5 (Untitled), submitted by Illithid Dude.
5th Place: Photo #4 (Tower Bridge), submitted by Bedhead.

I'll announce the subject of the next photo contest as soon as I hear back from photoLith!

You wouldn't like the birds if you've seen any of photoLith's shots from his years of bird photography!
