This area needs a reinvigoration

Could easily have a lot more development and fill out a grid. Air rights for development, street walls. Residential, commercial, retail, hotels etc.

take advantage of the PT and 95 access and more than ample parking which could be maintained with two or even three garages and an elevated park and ride

Seems like they are eliminating a ton of parking lots here. Hope some of these projects have underground parking or a garage.

Somehow, I don't think that "Save the Parking Lots!" is going to catch on.

Quote:
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court returned Stadium L.L.C.'s application to operate a casino hotel in South Philadelphia to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) on March 29, requesting that the board take a closer look at the company's ownership structure,The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

The PGCB’s approval of Stadium's application was appealed by SugarHouse HSP Gaming L.L.P. and by Market East Associates, which also had sought the license Stadium was awarded.

I'm guessing that if Live! falls through the whole thing would have to go to committee again with new proposals. That's what happened when Foxwoods died. In all honesty, given AC's recent casino troubles I have a hard time getting too excited about any new proposed casino in Philly.

Who can say that in the event the 8th and Market casino license would be granted (a long shot for sure), that the hotel portion would ever come to fruition? After decades of sitting vacant, who here would be satisfied with a crappy, low-slung slots barn? I mean, how many bait n switches do you guys need to witness before you realize that 95% of the time, the hotel aspect will never happen. Please keep the casino where it belongs, by the stadiums. I'll wait another few years for a real proposal.

I'm not a fan of casinos, but if there's a place for it in the city, this is it. This is one case where I'd rather have a parking lot at 8th & Market.

Totally agree with you and Larry King. Market 8 was one of the most depressing and oversold projects in the city's history. It likely never would have been fully built out, had already undergone a hideous cost engineering before it was even rejected, and would have been a massive waste of site that that, assuming it could ever be wrested from Goldenberg, has enormous potential.

I won't shed a tear if this project dies. Too many casinos are already in the region.

The only place I would like to see a casino would be on the SS United States. Though I doubt it's economically feasible.

Honestly, I'm likely never going to step foot in Sugarhouse or any other local casino. I've been to AC plenty of times (although less often the farther I've gotten from being a poor college kid) and Vegas a handful as well. It's about the destination. And that ship is a destination. You could fit a casino, showroom, hotel, restaurants, museum and more in that big girl and it would be awesome.
