Without seeing the drawings, I have trouble understanding this project. But, apparently it includes leveling the 7-11! Unfortunately, it also includes the demolition of a large portion of the old store fronts along Clark. Though it will be good to see the IO building and that run down diner go.

So this is roughly what will be replaced on Clark. Honestly there are some buildings towards the north end that are nice, but I feel for the most part, it will not be that great of a loss. Sure it will greatly impact the streetscape and the feel of it all, but I will welcome the apartments and density grant it the architecture is not the best in the world.

This part kills me. From the article:

Two stores at the corner of Addison and Clark will remain standing: Luis Auto Repair, 1031 W. Addison St., and Sports World, 3555 N. Clark St.

Looks like that wretched faux historicism, poorly executed even for faux historicism, is what's actually getting built. How disappointing. Wrigleys Ye Olde Baseball Themepark™ here we come.

I am assuming this model comes from the Cubs front office, no? Is there a link to a larger image?

What I like about the rebuild of Wrigley is that nearly all aspects of the grandstand (everything that is not the bleachers) will look pretty darn similar. It even looks like there will be posts obstructing the view of certain seats. It's not faux-historicism if the building is practically a carbon copy of the current version of Wrigley, is it?

I can see the criticisms of the new buildings outside of the ballpark. Those are brand new and could be built in any number of styles. I'm just happy that, with the exception of the video boards, the view from the ballpark will be nearly the same. The video boards will give the park a different look and feel, but not so far removed from the classic atmosphere is has maintained for so many decades.

Maybe I'm just drinking the Kool-Aid, but this is a good thing to happen to Wrigley.

Personally, I wish the office building was more like the addition they are putting at shef an addis. I like the clock tower, but wish it more geometrical.

No photos, but I shall paint the scene with words.

There are (3) Case Foundation rigs on the site of the office building. Two of them are boring and the other one is just a crane, maybe used to lower the caisson liners into the ground. It looks like the perimeter has also received a bit of work but none of the interlocking sheet liners like we typically see, so I'm not sure what that work was for.

There are a good few pieces of large steel W members (I think that is the right term) stacked up along Clark. There was a Prairie Concrete truck when I went by this morning.

On the right and left field sides of the park, caissons have been going in for a while now. There is still a Case rig and another Case movable crane working on the right field side this morning and a backhoe digging and doing stuff on the left field side.

Tons of noises coming from deep under the stands but I couldn't make out what they were doing.

Thanks for sharing my shot! Hope to get up again in the near future once some of the bleacher structure starts going up.
