hkskyline in MUMBAI - Part 4

1. Mumbai has a mix of waterfront and hill sceneries. On this sunny day, I decided to go up Malabar Hill to see how the rich people live :

2. Doesn't look so posh yet

3. Rather ancient bus

6. Stopping at the Hanging Gardens

13. Across the street from the gardens, between trees, you can get a good view of Mumbai from above :

17. Of course there will be a lot of people looking at this view and taking pictures :

18. Where have I seen this before?

19. There are a few sights beyond the traditional historic core that I wanted to cover which is closer to Midtown. Some pictures from the trip north :

27. The stop was Haji Ali, which is connected to the mainland by a causeway. The guidebook said it is only accessible during low tide, but it seems the causeway is fairly high above the water level. Does it really get all covered up at other times of the day?

28. Although this scene looks very serene, when I stepped onto the street, a very pungent smell greeted me. It smelled like human waste.

29. And amidst that smell, food stalls selling their wares in the open.

31. The causeway leading to the mosque had a mix of everything. It seemed fairly chaotic.

32. Much of that 'everything' was garbage.

40. What was more remarkable was the fishing boat just offshore despite the garbage.

41. And the people actually stepping into that kind of water.

44. Anyone want lime juice to quell the winter heat?

45. In the end, I turned back after walking about 2/3 of the way to the mosque. The scene got a bit too overwhelming.

India is incredible, and considering they speak English it seems that it would be relatively easy to get adjusted to the cultural difference. By "the scene got too overwhelming" do you mean it got too third world? That last pic really captures the chaos. Awesome thread of an awesome series!

Yes, the beggars and garbage were fairly overwhelming.
