Designation : $1.3-billion residential and commercial plan that it says will revitalize Griffintown,
a run-down area. It's one of the biggest private investments in Montreal's history


The project inclued :
  • 3,860 residential units, from low-income rental housing to high-end luxury condominiums. Sixty-five per cent of the project's floor space would be housing.
  • To allay concerns of heritage activists, the developer said it will protect 12 structures in the area, the former heart of the city's Irish community.
  • A mix of retail outlets, including services, shops and restaurants, accounting for 18 per cent of the project. Most retail space would be for small and medium-sized stores, with less than a quarter devoted to large-surface stores.
  • A 2,000-seat theatre.

Designation : The demolition of the Bonaventure Expressway will create a major urban boulevard
with lanes located on either side of a string of central city
blocks to be made available for development.

The project inclued :
  • 600 residential units, 5.000 m2 of retail business space and 43,000 m2 of office space in the central city blocks.
  • The lowering of the expressway contributes to urban renewal, freeing-up 17,370 m2 of land for development.
  • the CN rail viaduct has 20,495 m2 of ground-level space, part of which can be used for commercial or public purposes.

More pics of Lac Mirabel... This thing is going to be HUGE!

Lac Mirabel is going to be the newest mall in maybe the most entertaining of all!!! Completion is supposed to be fall 2009.
Cost: 425M$
The whole project is 14 million Square-feet and include 2.2 million square-feet of retail space. It's going to become one of the biggest mall in the world.

Yep the 400 Sherb is pretty much topped off now. Now what? The 110m marriott on University and cathcart? The 3 to 4 towers of varying heights on Rene-Levesque? The 701 University (31 floors) The 900 Maisonneuve (28 floors)?

Sorry if this has been brought up somewhere else in the forum, but I understand that the limits on the heights of buuildings in Montréal were based on the height of Mont Royal, the hill and park behind the downtown core. It is intended that no excessively tall buildings would overwhelm the views of/from the hill. Can anyone confirm/deny?

The 4th pic from the bottom of the last batch of pics got my att'n. The Garden Inn really changes the view looking down Sherbrooke.

My sister went to McGill back in the mid-70's, so I know this part of town very well. Looks like you were standing in front of the old music building (my sister's bldg) when you took this picture.* I like it. Hilton Hotels found a good spot.




*actually, you were a few blocks west of the music building, which sits at the head of Avenue Union. I didn't see what was in the foreground.

Hi. I'm new and from montreal and i was wondering.

Why no big skyscraper in montreal?

I mean, well. take any USA city with more than 1million people and you'll see that this city have at least 2 skyscraper over 250meter.

So why did montreal, with 1,6 million doesn't have nothing higher than 200?

ahh... I moved three weeks ago... I was living right beside the LUX Gouverneurs residence... Now I live near the Lac-Mirabel project... I can tell you that it's gonna be huge! Until now there is only the parking lots and the streets, and it already looks big...

I'm wondering now about the new UdeM campus in Outremont, is there anything new?
