i think it's fantastic idea, lock in the trades people so they can bounce from one to another. as someone who does lots of project management, it's much easier to "rinse and repeat" than start from scratch each time.

i've already seen tweets saying Stefanson is privatizing education. ughhh

So a monopoly on development is good now? Why do we think our kids deserve cost saving measures and not the best schools we can afford?

The levels people will go to lick boots on this forum is incredible.

Please tell us how the planned schools are lacking.

I get a little nervous with a single developer for 9 schools. Putting all your eggs in one basket kind of thing.

Allowing for say 3 developers doing 3 schools each makes me more comfortable. Might get more competitive pricing as well.

The biggest packages I can remember is the 4 school "Lake Manitoba Schools Initiative" and 3 school "Lake Winnipeg Schools Initiative" both through Indigenous Services Canada. I believe they went well.

I know about 15 years ago Seven Oaks built a new high school and did major renovations to two others all with the same group but they definitely were not tendered as a single project.

How hard will it be to dispense of this building in today’s tough commercial office market?

Not to be a downer, but this is still designed on spec, right? There's no current project for this?

The video is neat, but doesn't show much more than was previously posted here, apart from the camera moving around within Blender.

Might be a tricky residential conversion if that's what they decide to do...

That's a nice atrium in 200 Main... I've never been in that building, it looks better on the inside than I would have expected.

"Tall Boy" looks nice but I have a hard time imagining something like that getting built in the current climate.

And soon the Wawanesa building on Broadway. The Boyd building is still dormant and empty?

I think the issue with the Boyd Building isn't with the downtown office or rental climate but more with sketchy ownership. These are the guys that put an electronic billboard on their building without a permit (had to remove it), demolished the building next to it with the promise of a parkade and then tried to make it a surface lot (not allowed) - then parked a crane on it for a year.

The Tall Boy name makes me laugh... what's next, Stone Cold condos? Actually come to think of it, that's not a bad name for a MURB... it's made from what's real. Haha.

The whole proposal in terms of its location, size, scale, etc. seems a little far fetched though, although the contemporary design is nice. That particular look is probably getting played out in bigger cities but we still don't have anything like it in Winnipeg.

Wasn't that the site of the Orientique store that burned down in the 1980s? I think the only thing that got demolished was a bench in an empty lot.

The Tall Boy is cool, but there is no way it is feasible. I don’t think there is a developer. Even if there was, 3/4 walls are basically floor to ceiling windows. The windows with fins on them would be replaced with some sort of cladding, and the remaining windows would likely be the smaller types we’ve been seeing a lot of here. I’d still take it. I
