8 story Sasol tower breaks ground in Energy Corridor:
Quote:
Houston-based PM Realty Group broke ground last week on the fourth building of Woodbranch Plaza in the Energy Corridor.

Slated for delivery in April 2015, the 175,000-square-foot building is where Sasol, a South Africa-based international integrated energy and chemical company, will house its North American headquarters. The complex is at 12140 Wickchester Lane, near Dairy Ashford and Interstate 10.

The new building will share a fitness facility and cafe with Jacobs Plaza, which topped off on March 3, the same day as the groundbreaking. Both buildings, which are the same size, were designed by Houston-based Kirksey, with Houston-based Tellepsen working as the general contractor. PM Realty is also managing and leasing the complex.

California-based Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) will occupy almost half of Jacobs Plaza, with employees moving in August. The other 52 percent of the building is still open for lease.

4 story multifamily for Washington Avenue

Quote:
THE DEVELOPER behind the Morrison Heights midrise building (pictured at left) now under construction in the southeast corner of Woodland Heights has plans to build a similar “apartment and condo” complex at the southwest corner of Studemont and Center St., just north of Washington Ave. Like its neighbor to the northeast, the Studemont Mid-Rise would be a 4-story structure of 36 units mounted over an open parking area underneath. To fit the proposed building on the lot at 1011 Studemont St., however, Fisher Homes needs a variance from the city that would allow a reduced setback on either Studemont or Court St. Its application was deferred at a meeting earlier this month, and is up for consideration by the planning commission this Thursday.

All but one of the units, according to text accompanying plans submitted to the city, would be single bedrooms. Access to the parking area would be through 2 separate driveways off Court St. There’s a gas station directly south of the .4412-acre lot; south of that, on the opposite side of Washington Ave, is the Memorial Heights apartment complex.

More signs that the housing shortage is having an impact. Fewer than 16,000 homes for sale implies a slowdown, as demand waits for supply to catch up.

Houston home sales continue to outpace last year, but a slowdown may be coming

This one has been quietly flying under the radar. An Industry Day presentation from the Houston Airport System regarding Terminal D at IAH...which now looks like a Terminals C and D project - with a 7-year development timeline.

Look out, Ol' Mack is back. Mattress Mack has plans for a second, bigger Gallery Furniture location in Fort Bend County. No surprise - the county gained 26,000 new residents in the latest Census estimate.

'Mack' is going ‘over the top’

Let's add to this the announcement of the new Costco in the Woodlands.

Report: Costco plans store in The Woodlands

Couple of recent stuff thanks to Urbannizer as always :-)

Block 365: 6-Story Residential Midrise

Quote:
Located in the Southwest quadrant of the Houston CBD, Block 365 was acquired for multifamily development in the fast growing Downtown Houston submarket. With over five million square feet of office space development planned over the next 3 years, and a wealth of new hotels, retail and restaurants coming online as well, the city of Houston has created an incentive for developers to build apartments in the CBD to complement the continued growth in the downtown area. Growth in the Energy, Medical and Financial sectors has made Houston one of the strongest markets for job growth in the country, and has created significant demand for housing. Leon Capital Group is working with the architects at Hensley Lamkin Rachel, Inc. to design the property, and both groups are working closely with the Downtown District to meet the design guidelines that accompany the Downtown Living program. The project is planned to begin in Q4 2014 and will consist of 220 luxury apartments with resort style amenities, along withgreat views of downtown, walkability to major sports arenas and nightlife, and close proximity to a very dense and growing employment center

Design for new HSPVA becomes ‘more exciting and a little more real’

Architects presented design renderings and 3D images of the new High School for Performing and Visual Arts Thursday at a community meeting that provided a more detailed site plan of the five-story facility.

“With every week, this gets more exciting and a little more real,” said HSPVA Principal Scott Allen. “We’re at a point now where we know our dance department will be on the third floor, and music will be on the fourth and fifth floor. We’re still tweaking the design, but at least we know where each department will be located in the building.”

The project’s second community meeting drew about 40 parents, students, stakeholders and community members. Architects are aiming to complete the schematic design process in a few weeks and are currently working with structural engineers to develop a plan on how to fit the building structure to the architecture.

As much as it would have been a fun environment to go to school in, back in the day, the commute is going to be a nightmare - especially once the highrises go up on the neighboring properties. But some of us alumni are getting excited about the new building.
