two recent announcements (one renovation, one new construction):

Developer buys former American Red Cross building, eyes workforce housin

"New York developer Ed Ticheli is planning to redevelop the former American Red Cross building, which has stood vacant for a generation, on Third Avenue North for 192 market rate workforce housing units.

It’s a $28.8 million project that will feature 192 units on four floors with 48 units on each."

TWG Development proposes new multifamily development near Rotary Trail

"Were the project to materialize, it would be a five-story, wood-framed building with 253 surface parking spaces located in the vacated Powell Avenue at the rear of the property to avoid vacant space along the street front, according to public documents."

An Ohio developer, Stough Group is buying property between 3rd and 4th Avenue South and I saw survey markings on the entire block. Lee Rodgers Tires and the Thuss Medical Center are located on that block.

Thanks for the photos, Tim! I attended a UAB game yesterday (Sat Oct 3) for the first time. I can't wait to see how UAB will take over Protective Stadium. Also, it'll be really nice to have the stadium within a short walking distance of my workplace.

Thanks for all the pics, Tim!

Can't wait for the World Games and NCAA Basketball attendees to watch events in what will be some squeeky clean venues and spend their nights in some new, high quality hotels in downtown. Those events are going to leave some lasting impressions on people. I have no doubt a number of them will return.

Birmingham's 3rd-tallest coming back to life as a 435-unit luxury apartment development (check out that rooftop bar!):

Former AT&T City Center to be redeveloped as The 600, an upcoming luxury apartment tower

^ not sure if i understand your question. the building already has an outdoor rooftop area, it will just be converted into an outdoor dining/seating area with a restaurant and bar.

3D Google View of the building (not sure if this will work...):

I guess the question is will it technically increase the height of the building ?

I'm glad there's a lot of office space being taken off the market with this. This is a huge win, win. Tighter office market = more historic renovations + stronger demand. Also, Central City has been hurting for a long time by not having much of any residential space.

Did I say that man? NO.. Seriously was asking a question. But if you want to go there, as you have, yes, Birmingham has a lot of issues, some good ones too. I ask a simple question, but get flack, sounds like trump..
