VANCOUVER l The Butterfly l 179 M l 57 FLOORS

So I went through this sub-forum all the way back to April last year and could not find a thread for this tower (or any Vancouver Project) so I am starting one now (along with other Vancouver Towers).

This is the Butterfly, which has been approved by city council.

It was formerly referred to as The First Baptist Church Redevelopment.

It is a residential tower.

Bottom line, I love this proposal and it will become a true landmark in Vancouver.

It's interesting for sure. Not sure I'm a fan. Looks very Zaha Hadid.

I definitely suspect it will be a love or hate tower, but Vancouver has been in need of such landmarks, and the recent round of proposals over the last two years has been a major breath of fresh air.

This is the tower I am most excited to see rise in Canada over the next few years.

The tower itself was inspired after a pipe organ (to reflect its association with the church).

This reminds me of those towers in Nanterre right outside Paris built for those displaced by La Defense, only taller and 1,000 times better. I like it.

The site that it will built on is about 40 meters in elevation, so when viewing the skyline from the water it will give it around 210 meters of prominence.

Daytime render looks better, but the design is more caterpillar than butterfly.

^The footprint of the building is very much in the shape of a butterfly.

I believe that this tower will be starting construction by the end of this year.
