This is interesting, the aldermen literally can't revoke zoning once a building permit is issued. So I don't think it matters if he is trying to change the zoning, once you have a permit, you have a permit.

The real question is whether or not Tokyo Hotel actually plans to break ground. As Mr DT points out, their entitlements were about to sunset anyhow so they very well may have pulled permits just to extend the entitlements by 24 months in which case Reilly has a point, shit or get off the pot. This is very similar to the 590 W Madison situation a while back where they were about to lose their entitlements and were trying all sorts of shit to avoid that.

Reilly also apparently is downzoning the parking garage that Roszak recently bought at Randolph and Wabash.

There was a new construction permit issued yesterday, at least for some h piles, for 14th and Wabash. The 10 story, 62 unit building that we just learned about. Seems like they're moving pretty quickly on this thing...

And almost like clockwork, the other building in this at 51 E 14th Street got the same type of permit issued for the H-piles. This is for 14 stories and 199 units. It has a pending new construction permit. Seems like they aren't messing around. They are part of the zoning board of appeals meeting in a week. Seems like once/if they get approval for that, they want to start not long after maybe or at least have the permits ready so they can go whenever they want.

Two demolition permits issued for 450-54 W Belmont St. This is the site of a proposed 17 story, 90 story and 50 parking space building. I can't find a pending permit for the new construction but that doesn't mean anything (has happened for other high rises)

West and South Loop have been on fire with permits this past week. Curbed's new construction map is already out of date after this week

They don't have a cause of action. The reduction of potential economic value of a property due to a zoning change isn't a taking. Only the destruction of any economic value is viewed as a taking (such as when a developer's property was down-zoned to a nature preserve).

If developers have a problem with a particular Alderman there's a much easier, faster, and more effective solution; fund a challenger.

39th floor is a nice height provided you don't have obstructed views.

If your condo is too high you have to be standing to see any buildings other than the tallest buildings in the neighborhood. Not to mention your view is totally ruined by clouds a few times a month
