Not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but on Urbanize Chicago a new Project Map Beta has launched that shows UC/Proposed developments in 3D around Chicago.

Pretty cool tool: https://chicago.urbanize.city/projects

Now if they could just do this for the entire world then we'd have a decent replacement for Emporis. I'm still salty that site is down.

Pretty cool. Not comprehensive yet. Though it runs really fast, which makes it super easy to use.

That Urbanize map is really neat, thanks for sharing. Still needs the megadevelopments (Michael Reese, Lincoln Yards, The 78, River West casino, etc) but I'm sure they're in the works, hence the "beta" description.

Just reading through that mostly absurd list of 15 criteria for redevelopment makes it painfully obvious how badly they want to see these buildings fall. As infuriating as losing the two buildings would be, I hate even more the thought of yet another underutilized public space occupying that corner forever. As if Pritzker Park, Federal Plaza, Chase Plaza, Daley Plaza, and the Thompson Center aren't already overkill for the surrounding area.

Seriously! It’s infuriating. I’m updating my signature in case people miss this news. Hopefully it’ll encourage some people to show their support and we can keep up the pressure to stop this senseless demolition.

I've always heard that posted letters typically are taken more seriously than emails because they (arguably) demonstrate that the writer is expending more effort. Won't swear that it's true, but just in case...

I see demo permits were issued for 408 E S Water yesterday. Based on the attached image, it looks like this plot of land is marked "Future" in the LSE site plan. Does anyone have insight to this?

Isn't that the unfinished GEMS II school site?

Oh wow, so they are going to tear it down? I wonder what the plan is to replace it with.

It was supposed to be a school in the original iteration for LSE. Not sure what the plan for it now is however.

Edit: Hah, I was beaten to it.

That was the site of the sales center for Cirrus. It is probably to demolish the sales center. What the plans are after that I don't know but in the original LSE plans this location was supposed to be for a public school. This is not the Gems II location.

Did they sell all the units for Cirrus? This must mean yes.

^They have a sales center inside the completed building now along with several fully built model units. No need for a second sales center… I’m not sure if that is what the demo permit is for, but that would make sense.
