That RDG dining car to the south of this site would make some excellent private varnish. I've heard its trucks are in pretty good condition, when compared with the rest of the car. If I ever win the lottery...

I thought the dining car was supposed to be some kind of information booth for the rail park. I'm not up there much, so I'm guessing that's not the case?

I forget who legally owns it, but no work has been done on it in several decades.

I don't see any updates from them since 2018, but friends of the rail park did want to refurbish it as a welcome center/office space. No mention if they ever bought it or not. 3 years later with no work on it isn't exactly promising.

I’ve been told that’s because these are two different units of Toll Brothers. The Jewelers Row project is the condo division, super high-end. This project is your luxury apartment division, and these sort of developments as we can see being built all over Philly—must be highly profitable, even during covid.

Who are we to question the great wisdom of the Toll organization.

yeah permit issuance is a much more worthy story. I was hoping this was going to say work was underway.

It baffles me that any green improvements are shown under 'future opportunities'. Seems stupid not to just take the opportunity while it's all torn up already.

This city is fucking incompetent. Broad, Market, Spring Garden, Washington Ave etc should all have landscaped medians with steel wrapped curbs like NYC has. Granite looks nicer but that and concrete are crumbling in 2 years.

Landscaping = Money/Maintenance, I rather them maintain it right after its done because if it's not it will be a mess in a couple months.

I agree. At the very least something like the medians along west spring garden. It will be interesting to watch Washington Ave. transform over the next year. The renderings between Columbus and 4th show a lot of trees being planted. The plans for the rest of it appear to be much more focused on function over form.

True, but the planters and trees on the sidewalks are already maintained and cleaned weekly.

I believe the planters and trees are easier to maintain because they can access them easily due to them being on the sidewalk, to do the median they will have to get an arrow truck and move at a certain pace.

I own a landscaping business so I know that maintaining landscape is not something people wanna pay for because it gets pricey.

And we all know Philly loves spending money on landscaping.

N broad defiantly should be landscaped in the middle instead of the concrete ovals we got.

Lmao remember when they put the sky rise lights up and they weren't bright enough

1 million dollars on new bulbs.

FWIW the construction on Broad near the new police HQ is unrelated to what you linked to (which is construction north of Poplar). I'm not 100% sure but I suspect the construction you quoted a picture of has to do with the police HQ (adding additional underground vehicle access and such).

It could be, but I saw multiple medians jack hammered already on this stretch of broad, not just in front of the inky building.
