Hoping this too. 110 short term rentals should piss them off even more. It's still proposed at 7 stories so I don't even understand how they're "winning" except out of spite. Their objections are so depressing. Why even live there if you have no appreciation for local arts

And the comments about preserving the character of old city couldn't be more ironic.

Love or hate his work, it would have to be heartbreaking to see one of your largest pieces that you worked on for nine years get demolished in your old age in one day like it's nothing. On top of that having the group you donated it to wanting nothing to do with it. It's awful

Pretty sure we have Reinhold to thank for that one, the owner of the Chocolate Works. The dispute is truly a shameful disservice to the neighborhood. Infuriating and frankly pretty fcked up.

So, looking around on the newly updated google earth I find the construction site for something next door to the east falls community garden, sandwiched near the tracks, its several stories but its only a set of concrete block cores, anyone know what this is?

I believe that is, unfortunately, going to be self-storage facility. Terrible location for it.

There are always NIMBYs. The blame here lies with megalomaniac judge Anne Marie B. Coyle who personally overturned the variances granted by the zoning board.

The thing that sucks even more about this is that the BS RCO that is "leading" the charge here for the Painted Bride project has absolutely no public information on the meeting which took place last night. Seems like an absolute sham and it's frustrating that Old City District, which also has RCO jurisdiction here, is just sitting on the sidelines.

As a daily R6 rider, I've been watching this project rise for months. I've been under the impression that they're going to be apartments based on the wood-frame construction over steel bases.

Anyone heard anything on the reimagining of the Parkway? Apart from the Calder announcement it's been pretty quiet. Quick maths says their 18 month process should be concluding in a month or two. Kinda need to get rolling on these things to be ready for 2026.

"the process, in partnership with the Parkway Council, will last 18 months and will work with the community on creating a world-class public realm plan for people-centric, permanent changes to dramatically improve the appeal, use, traffic safety, functionality, and beauty of the Parkway. In October 2021, Design Workshop was selected from 18 internationally renowned design teams to lead the project to design a more welcoming, pedestrian-friendly Parkway."

There is an update available here showing where they are in the timeline (as of Jan 2023). It looks like we should see some movement over the next few months on finalizing the design: https://www.phlparkway.com/

I think this is going to turn out better than the renders. I love the angled support beam on the ground floor.

Also, so far it feels like the GC is running a meticulous job. I drive by here regularly. The site is spic and span clean and they're running street sweepers up and down their stretch of Delaware Avenue to keep the perimeter spotless.

This one looks like a dump from the outside. Trash everywhere.

I'm always amazed that the entire project staff comes and goes from these jobsites, which I assume includes site leaderships (foremen, GCs, etc) and they seemingly don't care about how filthy their jobsite is. To me, is a precursor to overall quality.

A summary of the largest project associated with Penn.

Inside Penn's $1.3B construction boom — with another $440M in the pipeline

https://www.bizjournals.com/philadel...-projects.html

The Graduate School of Education Building at 3700 Walnut St. reached the topping off milestone a couple of weeks ago and the $36 million project is expected to open in the fall.

Five blocks away on Walnut is the Vagelos Laboratory for Energy Science and Technology, a building that got underway in early 2022... It is expected to be completed in February 2025.

At 34th and Chestnut streets will be Amy Gutmann Hall, a project that will be the city's largest mass timber building to date when it is topped off this summer.

The school is embarking on the development of the first facility designed solely for track and field in Greater Philadelphia. The Ott Center for Track and Field will sit on a plot of land along the Schuylkill River in between Penn's baseball and field hockey fields.

One of the priciest projects underway is the addition of seven floors onto the existing Perelman School of Medicine building at 3600 Civic Center Blvd. on the south end of campus. The $363 million project will add seven floors and 217,000 square feet of lab research onto the structure and is expected to be completed in March 2025.

McDonald's at 40th and Walnut streets. The campus staple for over 50 years closed its doors in January but Penn aims to reopen the fast-food restaurant in a redeveloped mixed-use space at the same location at 3935 Walnut St. in summer or fall of 2024.

One of those projects is the 484,000-square-foot, $365 million project at Pennovation Works, which is being developed in partnership with Longfellow Real Estate Partners.

There are also a pair of restoration projects going on at some of the university's most historic sites. The first building on Penn's West Philadelphia campus, College Hall, is undergoing a restoration to its West Wing...

The university will also spend $238 million on a three-phased renovation to its Quadrangle.

It would be really fun to be in the Real Estate Department at Penn. Probably make less money than you would in the private sector but damn, you'd work on some cool stuff.

Glad to hear about the cleanliness of the GC. What a difference it makes. I passed down South Street walking to the UPS store and it had been freshly swept (South St Biz District likely rather than the City), but what a huge difference this makes. Sure it'll be messy in a day or two but I've learned to appreciate the few moments of peace and cleanliness in this city.

Has there been any renderings released for the 11 story building going up at 44 and Market? Assuming it’s another bland box but still curious.

Naked Philly wrote about it today: https://www.ocfrealty.com/naked-phil...at-44th-market

Their story includes a low-quality rendering that gives a general idea of the project's massing.
