Probably just to announce what it will look like now that Amazon is the anchor tenant...

LOL that would be hilarious re: Amazon. I guess I'm just confused about why they'd be having a meeting. This thing is pretty well publicized already and already even has a "tenant" (University of Illinois). The thing is a self contained neighborhood - obviously there's some housing across the street of sorts, but a different animal all together.

So all joking about Amazon aside, what else could the meeting actually be about for the uninformed (me)?

Hasn't Related said it is planning some short-term uses for the site? Maybe they want to talk about that

I assume they want to keep interest in this development to spur sales or drum up interest from tech company or two (Amazon, Apple, et al.). A write-up in the news is something you can send to prospective anchor tenants.

Ummmm.....to Mr D’s point, if Related would like to get a PD here approved, they’re going to want to want to hold some community meetings.....

I was under the impression all this stuff was already approved.

No, we know absolutely nothing yet about what Related wants to do with the site.

I've heard reliable rumors that they'll move the Metra tracks west away from Clark, and they had to give CDOT intersection locations for the Wells-Wentworth project. But we have no idea yet about the mix of uses, the density in various portions of the site, how much parkland will be dedicated, whether they'll do something innovative with the riverwalk, how they'll provide access other than Wells-Wentworth into the site, what transit improvements they'll commit money to in order to support highrise density, and who'll fund all that new infrastructure.

Sure, PR is all well and good, but if Related is calling a community meeting then it should have something noteworthy to present.

Separately, related to the U of I use of the site: I don't believe that was a plan with hard dollars behind it but more of a vision. I assume Related would need to keep a placeholder for the time being.

The facade reminds me of Joffrey Tower, which aged badly.

Didn't Joffrey sue the glazing manufacturer?

^ Are they replacing the façade? Or just letting it look dilapidated like a post-War housing project?
