With 735,000 daily passengers, the line 4 is the second busiest line on Paris metro.
Mouton Duvernet is one of the least busy station on line 4, that's why they chose it for the first doors.

The 2nd door is here.

Yeah, it's not one of those major nodes on the line.

Cool that you have these figures. What would be the 4th to go automated then?
I hear 13 is sort of hellish to its daily commuters, suspecting it'd be the most legit candidate.
Plus, it's about to be extended if I remember well.

New entrance
It's former emergency exits on the platforms of line 14 that has been enlarged and transformed into a real entrance with a new ticket hall.
This new entrance provides no direct connection to line 6 platforms.

Platform doors

Some update about the work on the line 4.
Three stations have the installation of platform doors completed : Mouton Duvernet, Raspail and Alesia in order.

Ok, I'm really hating myself for being that little bitch these days, but I can't help saying how much I hope people act kindly and take their daily shower here.

Crowds like this + rude attitude + bad smell <=> very bad reputation to mass transportation <=> serious disaster to city planning.

Just saying.

Wow, I thought this was just on Line 14.

Is Paris putting in platform doors on the entire system? That's a pretty ambitious upgrade. It looks a bit strange, because you have the classic Parisian barrel-vault style now with this modern intruder.

^ Only line 14 (still the latest and by far the fastest until line 15 is completed) and line 1 (cause it must be the busiest) feature these upgrades.

I think this is to enforce some passenger discipline and to enhance frequency on rush hours.
Line 4 is not too long, pretty fast and quite busy too, thus legitimate to benefit from this thing.

I suspect line 13 will be next, cause it's ultra busy as well, and uncomfortable for now.
Passengers often complain about it.

However, the most tedious lines to ride on the inner métro network are 7, 8 and 9.
They are like endless; too many stops along. They should close some stations to improve the efficiency of those.

Line 4 is being upgrated to become driverless just like line 1 in 2011.
Except that they have chosen to use full sized platform doors on line 4 instead of half sized (5'7 ft tall) like on line 1. Line 4 has quite a few issues with intrusers on the tracks, especially on the northern part of the line.

Speaking of ambitious program, The largest network expansion project since the opening of Paris metro is currently underway.
Over 200 new km planned for 2030.

Interesting info. Yeah, I know about Grand Paris Express, which is super impressive. I look forward to riding the new lines.

I wish the U.S. federal govt. cared about transit. Heck, I wish it weren't openly hostile to spending a penny on transit.

The federal government spends money on transit. It just doesn't spend enough money on transit. The 1970's were really the last decade of vigorous federal investment in (share of costs vs state obligations) and priortitizing of urban transit and infrastructure projects. Has plenty happened since then? Sure, but not to the scale that is appropraite to match the demand and need and to make significant dents in mode share when it comes to commuter options in our nations cities. The good news is, I believe the slump years are nearing their end and the future is bright for ambitious federal investment, especially as the infrastructure investment goals and the GND become more mainstream in their appeal.

Many closures planned on line 11 from March.
The extension of line 11 is accompanied by the modernization and adaptation of existing stations and infrastructures.

-Between March 1st and 4th, closing of the line between Porte des Lilas and Belleville
-From March 3rd to April 5th, closure of Rambuteau station
-From March 18th to December 16th, closure of line 11 platforms at Chatelet.

The work will be quite heavy in Chatelet, there is the construction of a new corridor.

Goncourt, just reopened after a month of renovation.
The renovation mainly consists of the reconstruction of platforms.
Similar works have been done at République, Hotel de Ville, Place des Fêtes and Rambuteau is next.

With the extension the length of line 11 will almost double.
6km and 6 new stations.
Longer train will be operated on line 11. Currently line 11 has the oldest rolling stock of Paris metro.

Are there any plans to extend 11 in the other direction? Having a line that ends in the city center isn't the best idea usually.

No plan to extend line 11 southward, the density of metro is already important in Central Paris. Going south would mean difficult works (crowded underground, passing under the Seine river) to serve areas that are already well served.
Extensions in the suburbs are privileged.

________________________________________________

The current large project under central Paris is the western extension of the RER E.
The tunneling has just started few days ago.
The TBM is named Virginie and it will bore a 7.5km tunnel between Haussmann La Defense and Haussmann Saint-Lazare

Paris to Experiment with All-Night Metro Service

https://nextcity.org/daily/entry/par...-metro-service

Quote:
.....

- In a move to bolster Paris’ standing as a 24-hour city, Valérie Précresse, president of Île-de-France (the governing body of the Paris region), announced April 13 that the French capital will begin a trial of all-night service on selected tram and metro lines starting this September. Metro Report International reports that Précresse provided the details of the trial in an interview with Le Parisien. The project will keep six metro lines and three tram routes open all night one Saturday a month beginning Sept. 14 and ending on March 7 next year. Metro lines 1, 2, 5, 6, 9 and 14 and tram routes T2, T3a and T3b will see 24-hour service under the trial, but not all stations will be open all night. On the weekends in question, service will operate from 5:30 a.m. Saturday to 12:30 a.m. Monday. Frequencies on some connecting overnight bus routes will also be increased.

Paris, surprisingly, does not seem to have huge nightlife. I wonder if the early Metro closing times play a role.

Not sure if they need 24/7 service, but the current closing times seem a little silly. You pretty much need to be on the train by 11 PM to be sure.

The Night Bus system is extensive. I really don't think a 24 hour Metro is what explains Paris nightlife vs. Barcelona, Madrid etc. nightlife.

Line 6 is closed between Trocadero and Montparnasse-Bienvenue during July and August to renovate the elevated section between Passy and Pasteur.
