that other render that Malec posted above looks like they stuck Singapore in the background.
this was the closest angle, that distant tower is lit up but below is not, but it does look like SG

Notgoingtobebuiltonium. This just doesn't seem very feasible as planned, even for Dubai. They are shooting for about a 10-12 slenderness ratio on this building (which in itself is not economical (look what happened to the old Chicago Spire design)) from what I can tell by the renderings. To further complicate the economic feasibility of this, they have only all units that take up an entire floor? I suppose with fewer people they can possibly eliminate some elevators, needing less core.. but that only helps so much. I actually really like the design, but I predict this one doesn't go...

^^ That's what I'm thinking. Plus there's not much of a market left for this type of tower.

Where the hell are all these residents coming from? Will it be occupied by mostly absentee foreigners?

I suppose some of those imported laborers could eventually live in some of these places. It would probably be better to sell some of the units in some buildings for little money rather than nothing.

Yes! This'll probably be used mostly as 2nd homes for people so you won't see all the lights on at the same time

This was my thought. They'd just about have to be. There could feasibly be a market for this sort of thing if enough wealthy foreigners were to take a "second home" in Dubai.

Edit: lol, Malec beat me to it.

They are really hurthing themselves by putting those super talls that close. The location in distance is diminishing the signifcance of height adding to the skyline. Of course though it is up to the developers who are competing for the business (the wealthy foreigners), (who most likely don't exist). Smart business, stupid urban planning.

As for as the building itself: you know to me its just another typical Dubai residential highrise. Anywhere else, I'd be more enthusiastic towards this, but these buildings are just so common here its not even amusing anymore.
Will it get built (I'm 50/50). Who will occupy (I think they will make cardboard cut-outs of people dressed like the monopoly guy to fill the units).
I'm not paying for it, so what the hell, you got my all for to build.

The plot that says trident tower. It could also be on the one to the left of that or maybe even both!

Thing is, those ? plots will probably also be 100 floor towers. Not only is does this close proximity block everyone's view, cause major traffic, and massive wind tunnels but is also a massive fire hazard.

^^^^ The concept of safety to the Saudi Royal Family when it comes to skyscrapers in Dubai is long gone. I don't think they even "exit" signs in their buildings......

What the Saudi Royal Family has to do with Dubai's skyscrapers????

... and there are EXIT signs everywhere, propably even more of what you see where do you live. My apartment even came with a fire distinguesher on it, while pipe hoses are on every floor.

Pentominium sounds too much like Pandemonium.

A massive render I got. I asked to get some floorplans and more info and now I have them
I'll start to make a sketchup model of this soon.

A clear element of LA in here

Wow. They used LA's skyline in that render. And Singapore's skyline in the render below (notice the 2 tall buildings in the background to the right):

Way to go Dubai.

Seeing as how the average wage for a skilled carpenter working on the Burj Dubai is around $7.60 *per day* and laborers "earn" $4.00 *per day* (according to Wikipedia), they better have a very creative mortgage financing scheme in place.

the entire city is being marketed as a second home for people to spend several weeks a year. i can't imagine being in dubai when most major projects are complete. i can only imagine it would be a graveyard of behemoth ryugyong hotels. isn't it people that makes a city great? give me $5 mil and i'm off to punta del este or santorini or the like.

in a situation like this i'd like to say "i want to be proven wrong." but i don't. i want dubai to fail. spectacularly. then again, maybe it will draw away a lot of the chinese businessmen absentee-ing vancouver to death. but somehow i doubt that.
