It sounds like - other than trying to blame this all on the current President (even though the Obama admin is partially at fault here too if you want to play that game) - is that he wants what Bill Gates wants: Police/Soldiers on the streets forcing everyone to stay in their homes. More authoritarianism.

To what end is beyond me. People need food, medicine, exercise, etc. You want civil disturbances - that’s one sure fire way to spark them off.

Nah. 3.5 years is long enough for our current big boy to get the credit (Clinton does get much more credit for 9/11, BTW). As for civil disturbances, go ahead and just let the death toll soar. That'll really calm folks down. When the rest of the a-hole governors finally decide to just do what makes sense (Floriduh's governor finally started acting like an adult), it will happen.

Do you guys just traffic in paranoid fantasies, or do you cosplay this on your weekends? Asking as a gun owner who hasn't yet lost his mind. Asking for my police friends who genuinely don't get your weird theories. I've lived through emergencies with National Guardsman fencing off neighborhoods, and enforcing curfews. Riots: zero. We all got back to business when the emergency passed. The only deaths were the idiots who couldn't be arsed to follow basic instructions to keep themselves and their neighbors alive. Those idiots got swept up in the floods. Dumbasses.

Angry

I like what the guy from the Hoover Institute said: We are shutting down the world's 5th largest economy (California) because three people are dying a day in California from covid-19. 750 people die each day in California! Out of those 750 - 3 die from corona virus! New York City has the highest concentration (nearly half the country)- the tight restrictions should be placed there. I read an article - some woman that is part of the Spanish royal family died from corona virus - she was 87. 87! She could have died easily from getting the regular flu ...or, a cold! We didn't close down the country during the AIDS panic in the 80's. We didn't close down the country when we had the Swine flu pandemic 10 years ago that killed 20,000 Americans! The media and politics is to blame. No politician DARES to speak out against this. The media would crucify him. One politician says,"everyone should stay off the streets". Then, the next one to up him says, "Everyone stay home." Then, the next one - to better them all says, " Everyone should hole up in their front hall closet at home!" The media makes millions $$ from their advertisers - and since they are going full guns with this - maybe, they should donate some of their millions towards the workers that are out of work now. If they were madated to do this - they would probably come out saying that this panic/scare has ended - and pursue their next big news story!!!

You didn't present one fact. You just hate Trump. Fine, if you want to waste your time hating him. Well, I lived in Southern California for 35 years - and I HATE Pelosi, Shiff, Newsom, Kamala Harris, oh, and the worst - Bernard Sanders (big phony - socialist but, is literally part of the 1%!!) and the other phony career politician - Elizabeth Warren.

I understand people want to "blame" but the truth is its only a matter of time that some sort of plague would one day due to laws of averages and evolution, beat our modern defenses and cause a pandemic. It happens over and over and over again in the human experience and it will happen again in the future.

There are countless predictions and movies and stories out there about the potential risk of a coronavirus from central china spreading and becoming a pandemic. The world has had several close calls. This time unfortunately we weren't so lucky.

Prepping for some unknowable possibility before hand? Could that have stopped this? Maybe, I suppose if we happened to just guess out of the dark exactly what this particular virus would need without knowing it existed at the time.... sure if we were impossibly lucky.

The reality is it does not matter who is president, all of the action would have been generally the same because its been outlined in dust covered playbooks sitting in various federal departments written decades ago based on hypotheticals and the recommendation of academic experts.

Look around the world, nobody is doing better. Poor countries have no way to test or get a handle of their outbreaks, some countries are actively doing nothing like Sweden and Mexico. Some are lying like China, but nobody is doing particularly well except for it seems like South Korea.

Per capita we are doing quite well compared to most, on par with Germany
Very well said.

Regardless of the rest of your post - this is categorically false. Advertising dollars are drying up FAST - first thing businesses cut is almost always marketing.

Hundreds (literally) of folks that work in the media/advertising industry have been laid off, just in the past week, in Phoenix alone. Entercom, Gannett, iheart, OH Partners, Riester, etc. They have all begun laying off staff as companies are NOT spending money on media.

The Phoenix City Council meeting yesterday was interesting. The biggest agenda item was whether or not to close trails in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. The final vote was not to do so, but to close city parks on Easter weekend to prevent the big picnics and egg hunts that typically occur at that time. On the trails issue, I'm torn. I know a lot of less-traveled trails and neighborhoods trailheads where I can hike with minimal interaction with others. A lot of hikers, however, overcrowd popular trails like Piestewa and Camelback. I hold the Shoupian opinion that the best way to manage this would be to charge people to park at the popular trailheads. Unfortunately, that idea is controversial even in good times and would not go over well when many people are hurting financially.

After that, there was a discussion of how to handle planning and development meetings, the type that normally invite public participation. Some citizen commenters representing neighborhood groups argued that the meetings should be suspended entirely. Sal DiCiccio argued that instead the meetings should proceed via videoconference because in the current economic climate, the city should be doing nothing that might delay projects and cause them to lose financing. I found myself in a rare moment of agreement with my city council member, and I was pleased the council voted to pursue the virtual meetings / hearings option.

Do you live in Arizona now? Why did you stay in California for 35 years if you hated it so much?

I didn't say that I hated California. I said that I hate those fools that have destroyed it! I won't get into it - unless this forum allows it. I thought that this was for corona virus. Someone was attacking Trump - didn't think that was necessary for this forum. I have just retired to Prescott.

Yes, it is disturbing that so many people are out of work. Go back to my original post. The country - economy and the livelihoods of all these workers - is being destroyed. I like what the gentleman from the Hoover Institute stated, that 750 people die in California each day. Only three out of that 750 die from the Coronavirus.

I'm not going to engage you on your opinions, but don't present false information.

13 people died as a result of Covid19 yesterday- in Los Angeles alone. And the statistics are trending upwards, quickly.

Ha! So, you were the guy wearing the strange helmet running down Gurley Street last week near the courthouse square here in Prescott waving some flag screaming, "Nancy Pelosi for President!" Very entertaining. His fellow supporters were gathering around him - asking for handouts and freebies from those people walking by him.

All I'm going to say is.. those of you bashing this administration and complaining about how things are being done. Please don't be a hypocrite by cashing the stimulus check you're expected to receive in the mail

Ha! Perhaps it was a Covid-19-soaked Paul Gosar trying to "die gloriously in battle."

KIDDING! He's probably at home tweeting.

Same for everyone who complained about the "takers." Only people who get to cash their checks are the Cheech and Chong types who never, ever cared about any of it. #green
